Matteo Berrettini vs Holger Rune
It is great to see that Matteo Berrettini is back on the tour and playing at the top level, however 2024 will largely go down as a year to forget for the Italian. It was another injury issue in Tokyo last week, where he needed to retire to eventual title winner Fils in the second round. He didn't set the world on fire yesterday against Chris O'Connell, needing two very tight tiebreaks to progress, and it is hard to be too confident in his body.
You could also say that 2024 has been a year to forget for Holger Rune. He has had somewhat of a merry-go-round of coaching changes, and himself hasn't looked confident or happy on court. It feels as though he has started to turn a bit of a corner more recently, and his tennis is suggesting the same.
At the current odds, it is hard to go past a play on Rune at the moneyline. He is going to test the Italian physically, and with his form on the way back up in my opinion, taking him at the current odds at a bookmaker that pays out on retirements may be the play.
