September 28th 2022, 3:33pm, By: Jack Tobin

AFLW Round 6 Tips

The halfway mark of the AFLW season has been passed, and the race to finals begins to heat up. Top eight and top four spots are right up for grabs, as another huge weekend of footy takes place.

Jack Tobin has you covered with his tips for AFLW Round 6, and be sure to check out our AFL Tips page for our AFLW previews each week.

AFLW Round 6 Betting Tips

Port Adelaide vs Adelaide

Friday 8:00pm AEST, Adelaide Oval

Round 6 is headlined by the first ever AFLW Showdown at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night. Erin Phillips, Ange Foley and Justine Mules go up against their former side in a game that is going to have plenty of spice. The Crows are coming off the biggest win in the history of the AFLW, with a 96 point win over GWS in Round 5. The 15.7.97 to 0.1.1 smashing of the Giants was Adelaide’s fourth win in a row, which has seen them jump into second place on the ladder.

Port Adelaide stormed home in the final quarter against the Suns, kicking 4 goals to 1, but it wasn’t enough as they fell fourteen points short. The Power have a 1-3-1 record and are sitting in fourteenth place on the ladder, with a daunting task of taking on their experienced crosstown rivals.

Adelaide are averaging 42 points per game, while Port Adelaide have only kicked five goals in two of their five games this season. The firepower the Crows have in the middle of the ground is going to give them plenty of looks inside 50, and allow for their dominant defence to set up strongly behind the ball. Port Adelaide don’t have the quality to penetrate the Adelaide defence, and it will be a convincing win in the inaugural AFLW Showdown.

Adelaide -28.5

$1.90 (2.5 Units)

Western Bulldogs vs Geelong

Saturday 2:10pm AEST, Mars Stadium

The competition’s two big improvers face off in a crucial clash at Mars Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The fifth placed Western Bulldogs take on the sixth placed Geelong, with both sides looking to jump into the top four. The Dogs suffered their first loss of the season against the Kangaroos last week, while the Cats are coming off their biggest win in the AFL, with a 50 point win over St Kilda.

The Bulldogs have been a more consistent attacking outfit than Geelong, with the Cats only kicking above three goals once this season. For comparison, the Dogs are averaging 31 points per game in Season 7. Geelong haven't been a fast side with their ball movement this season, and their defensive structures have come unstuck on the wider grounds away from Geelong this season.

This is going to be a tight contest particularly with inclement weather expected in Ballarat on Saturday, and the Dogs have had a knack of winning close games this season. Geelong are yet to beat a top eight side this season, and they haven’t been able to control games defensively away from Kardinia Park this season.

Western Bulldogs -4.5

$1.90 (1.5 Units)

St Kilda vs Collingwood

Saturday 4:10pm AEST, Moorabbin Oval

Collingwood heads to Moorabbin for the first time on Sunday afternoon, looking to make it five wins from six games in Season 7. The Pies take on a St Kilda outfit that was thumped to the tune of 50 points by Geelong last week, and will be desperate to bounce back.

Despite the loss the Saints are within a game of the top eight, with a win over Collingwood crucial to their finals aspirations. Collingwood grinded out an eleven point win in tough conditions against Essendon, and are sitting comfortably in third. The Pies have had even contributions across the board this season, as they continue to get the job done without dominating any statistical areas.

Collingwood are 2-0 against St Kilda, with wins by 27 and 46 point margins. The Saints have lost three in a row by an average margin of 30 points, and it’s difficult to see them getting close to the Pies on Sunday afternoon. Despite the Saints' improvement this season, Collingwood have too much established talent for St Kilda to compete with.

Collingwood -24.5

$1.90 (2 Units)

More AFLW Round 6 Tips

Hawthorn vs West Coast - Skybus Stadium, Friday 6:10pm AEST

West Coast have finally begun to show improvements this season, winning two of their opening five games, and were unlucky to not win the Derby last week. Hawthorn finally picked up their first win in Round 5, however their average losing margin over the first four weeks of the season was 36 points. The Eagles will be too good for the young Hawks.

Tip: West Coast -13.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Carlton vs GWS - Henson Park, Saturday 12:10pm AEST

Two sides desperate to bounce back after being smashed last week, with the Blues losing by 42 and the Giants losing by 96 points. GWS have scored just ten points across their last two games, and Carlton have a 5-0 record across the history of the competition.

Tip: Carlton -14.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Richmond vs Gold Coast - Punt Road, Saturday 6:10pm AEST

Richmond pulled off the upset of the season knocking off the undefeated Lions, and will be looking to extend their winning streak to four games when they host the Suns. The Tigers will be looking to nullify Gold Coast’s attacking game and keep this to a low scoring encounter. Richmond have played Punt Road well this season, and the Suns are yet to win away from home this season.

Tip: Richmond -12.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Brisbane vs Essendon - Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex, Sunday 1:10pm AEST

Brisbane will be seething after their shock loss to Richmond last week, and will be looking to bounce back in a big way. The Lions were averaging 66 points per game across the first four weeks of the season, but were held to just one goal last week. The young Bombers could be in for a painfull afternoon in Queensland.

Tip: Brisbane -30.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Fremantle vs Melbourne - Fremantle Oval, Sunday 3:10pm AEST

Fremantle are finally on the board in Season 7 with a three point win over the Eagles in the Western Derby, however a reality check is inbound with the Demons coming to town. Melbourne got their mojo back with a 42 win over Carlton last week, and demolishing Fremantle by 88 points the last time they met, Melbourne will be confident of coming out convincing winners.

Tip: Melbourne -24.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

North Melbourne vs Sydney - Punt Road, Sunday 5:10pm AEST

The Swans missed their biggest opportunity to pick up a win last week in a four point defeat to the Hawks, and could be in for a painful matchup against the Roos this weekend. Sydney had an average losing margin of 43 points in the opening four games of the season, with three of those four losses coming against teams outside of the eight, it’s scary to think of what North Melbourne could do to them.

Tip: North Melbourne -46.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes
