2026 AFLW Round 9 Betting Tips
Western Bulldogs vs Essendon
Friday 7:15pm AEDT, Mission Whitten Oval, Melbourne
The Bulldogs are rolling along nicely at 6-2, and their defensive work in recent weeks has been the real takeaway. Restricting St Kilda to a single behind in a 31-1 win in Ballarat showed just how hard Tam Hyett's side is to score against right now. Coupled with earlier victories over Port Adelaide and Fremantle, the Dogs are playing with a level of structure and composure that puts them firmly in the upper bracket this season.
Essendon finally broke their duck last week with an eight-point win over GWS at Henson Park, working hard to overturn a half-time. While getting that first win takes a bit of pressure off, travelling to Footscray to face a settled Bulldogs lineup is a completely different proposition. Expect the Bombers to compete hard early, but the Dogs' extra midfield depth and backline stability should see them pull away as the game wears on.
