AFL Daily Fantasy Tips 2025: Round 22 Sunday

August 9th 2025, 10:45pm, By: Jesse Penfold

AFL Fantasy Tips

AFL Round 22’s Sunday sees our traditional three gamer that we all know and love. We have plenty of game stack options in this slate kicking off with the GWS Giants hosting North Melbourne at Manuka Oval. The Giants have no choice but to win out and look after their percentage at each opporunity if they want to be sure about making finals. Next up Melbourne will host the Western Bulldogs at the MCG with the Bulldogs sitting in 9th spot but with one of the best percentages in the league. This will be a critical game for the Dogs to ensure they can jump up into the top eight before the season finishes. Then the hammer game gives us the top game stack option on the slate with West Coast hosting Adelaide at Optus Stadium. This is the top team in the league against the last team… load up and hammer home.

As always, this is all about the daily fantasy and this Sunday slate draws another massive $50,000 prize pool at Draftstars in their main contest. In addition, there are a variety of alternate contests:

AFL $50,000+ Sunday at Draftstars

AFL $5,000+ Sunday High Roller ($150 Entry) at Draftstars

AFL $3,000+ Sunday Mini ($2 Entry) at Draftstars

AFL Daily Fantasy Lineup Tips: Round 22 Sunday

AFL Fantasy Round 22 Sunday: Where to Attack?

Let's go game by game here. Firstly North Melbourne who have been giving up the third most points in the league to inside midfielders over the last 10 games at over 7 points per game above the league average. This is the starting place for an obvious GWS Giants game stack with the key link position with this being key forwards where North have been giving up over 10 points per game to over this same period, the most in the league. This stands out as a great play for the Giants who rely on both Hogan and Cadman up forward. Across the back line North have been allowing below average scoring so I would pass on loading up Giants backs in these stacks.

The Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs game does not stand out heavily in any position, but if you are looking for a stack it is the Bulldogs midfielders and forwards. The Dogs are solid favourites in this game and Melbourne have been giving up above averages scores to inside midfielders, general forwards and key forwards over the last 10 games.

Finally in the hammer game, West Coast have given up the most points in the league over the last ten games to opposition midfielders. Just beware of the Hough tag who will likely land on Jordan Dawson. On top of this, key forwards have been scoring above average fantasy points and general forwards have been scoring the most points in the league. Attacking half backs have also stood out against West Coast, racking up the most points in the league at over 7 points above league average.

AFL Fantasy Round 22 Sunday: Our Value Fantasy Picks

Tom Gross ($7,020) came back into the lineup last week after a long spell in the WAFL. He looked on point right away but faded as the game went on notching up a respectable 53 fantasy points. I like going back to this option as last week he was given no substantial midfield time but as the season winds down I expect the Eagles to increase these opportunities. The other popular value play from last week was Jai Culley ($7,280) who provided a better return of 78 points, but I would be more hesitant to dive back into this play given the increase in opposition this week.

Luke Pedlar ($6,000) has the best matchup in the league against West Coast who have been giving up the most points in the league to general forwards. He should be able to get on the end of plenty of scoring opportunities this week and at minimum price it will not take much to return value. The wet weather would also be a positive for Pedlar as well given his inside ability and tackling capability. He notched up a season high 67 points earlier in the year against the Eagles.

AFL Fantasy Round 22 Sunday: Our Mid Price Fantasy Picks

Aaron Cadman ($10,330) draws the top matchup in the league for key forwards this week with the opportunity to continue his breakout end to 2025. Over the last 9 games he has posted two scores of 100+ (including a 122 against the Lions), and another two games of 75+. I love going to him in this slate as he will be under owned as teams look to flood to the Crows talls who may have issues if the weather persists.

AFL Fantasy Round 22 Sunday: Our Premium Fantasy Picks

Tristan Xerri ($15,930) returns after a break from injury this week and hopefully his body is back to where it was at the start of the season. He draws a soft matchup to return to from a ruck perspective with the Giants giving up over 10 points per game above league average to the rucks over the last 10 games (fourth most in the league).

Jake Soligo ($14,450) has been hitting close to the highs that he started the season on in recent weeks with 121 points in the showdown two weeks ago and over the last month 2 games over 100 and 3 over 95. This is the best matchup in the league for his role and the wet weather if it is there will be no issues for Soligo as an inside player. Given the fact that West Coast have been using Brady Hough in a tagging option in recent weeks, I expect him to go to Jordan Dawson and leave Soligo to run free.

Weather Report for Sunday 10th August

Canberra – 14 degrees and partly cloudy

Melbourne – 16 degrees and sunny

Perth – 18 degrees and showers easing

Great football conditions in Canberra and Melbourne, but out Perth we are coming off a heavy day of rain on Saturday with these rains easing down to 3-10mm on game day. Keep an eye out and be conscious of the possible wet weather especially given the Crows reliance on key forwards.
