AFL Daily Fantasy Tips 2024: GWS vs Brisbane Semi Final

September 14th 2024, 1:02pm, By: Jesse Penfold

AFL Fantasy Tips

The second game of the semi final matchups for the 2024 AFL Finals Series will see the GWS Giants hosting Brisbane and ENGIE Stadium. GWS will need to rebound after they all but had their first final game locked up before Sydney rampaged and stole victoy in the fourth. It will not be easy, however, as they face one of the form sides in the competition over the last 10 weeks of the season. The Lions are looking storm through the finals series and back to the grand final after crushing Carlton in the first half last week.

Daily fantasy players will enjoy the games on offer as  Draftstars continue their massive prize pools with the main contest for this game being worth $70,000 along with their usual variety of alternate contests:

  • AFL $70,000+ Giants vs Lions
  • AFL $7,500+ Giants vs Lions High Roller ($150 Entry)
  • AFL $2,000+ Giants vs Lions Fiver
  • AFL $3,000+ Giants vs Lions Mini ($2 Entry)

The AFL Star contest is back for 2024 and Draftstars are offering the biggest prize pool in Australian DFS history with a $1 million guaranteed final with $250,000 top prize! There's only a couple more chances to qualify for the AFL Star final this season so jump into the qualifiers in the Draftstars lobby now!

Perfect finals football weather with no expected on the game or our fantasy scores.

Where to Attack?

Another brutally hard game to identify areas of attack. Both sides have been in lethal form in the second half of the season and neither have had a position that concedes significant fantasy points. GWS have been one of the stingiest teams in the league over the last 10 games from a fantasy perspective conceding well under league average to every position except for ruck.

Meanwhile, across that same period, Brisbane have given up above league average points to key forwards and designated kickers, but have been under at every other position. Like with most finals it is matter of picking out your game script and ensure your team fits it.

I like GWS to take over Brisbane given they are playing at home and will be stacking up GWS forwards to go with a mix through the midfielder as they game will likely be close.

VALUE PLAYS

Brandon Starcevich ($6,860) returned the value we were after last week at 62 fantasy points for minimum price. He has seen a minor bump after that performance but is still under prices for a player with a low score of 52 fantasy points from his last four full games. In a single game final slate where the value is hard to come by this level of consistency at this price point is an easy play and look to use the roster savings to spend up on the premium plays.

Lachlan Keefe ($6,000) / Aaron Cadman ($6,870)

I like going to one of these value plays in a GWS stack. Cadman could take advantage of the fact that the Lions have been giving up points to key forwards, especially given that the Lions will put the majority of their focus into shutting down Jesse Hogan. Last week Cadman returned a huge fantasy return with 74 points from 3 goals.

Meanwhile, Keefe will be reliant on picking up some hit outs to inch to a 50-60 point score. Last week he managed 59 against the Swans with 12 hitouts as he chops out Briggs in the ruck.

MID PRICED PLAYS

James Peatling ($11,970) is just lock and load through the finals while his price point remains under $12k. As we noted last week, he has secured his role in the Giants midfield, even with Stephen Coniglio back in the rotation. He attended 79% of the Giants centre bounces last week and returned 103 fantasy points. His floor is sitting at around 80+, which as we noted last week is solid at this price point in a single game finals slate.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Tom Green ($15,620) has not been in his fantasy scoring best this season, but has played well against the Lions this season. He posted 127 fantasy points against them in their first matchup earlier in the year and then backed it up with a 98 point game (which was GWS highest scorer in a win) in the second game. He should get on top through the midfield.

Oscar McInerney ($13,330) has big upside potential in any given game, and I love him in this matchup against Kieran Briggs who has been conceding big scores all season. The Big O is in some his best form of the season with scores of 110, 96 and 106 from his last three games.
