PGA Tour Truist Championship Betting Tips
Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course, Thursday 8th - Sunday 11th May
The PGA Tour heads to the Northeast as the 2025 Truist Championship kicks off on May 8th at the historic Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course. Normally held at Quail Hollow, the tournament has shifted venues this year with Charlotte preparing to host the PGA Championship. Despite the change in scenery, fans can expect the same high-stakes action that comes with a Signature Event—big names, big money, and big FedExCup points on the line.
The Field
The field is absolutely stacked. As one of the PGA Tour's eight Signature Events, the Truist Championship features just 72 players, no cut, and a whopping $20 million purse. That means four guaranteed rounds for everyone and plenty of room for fireworks on the weekend. Headlining the action is, of course, Rory McIlroy, who’s back in the winner’s circle and playing some of the best golf of his career.
Alongside Rory are a host of big names, including Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas—all of whom are more than capable of taking the title. And don’t sleep on guys like Max Homa and Ludvig Åberg, who’ve been hovering around leaderboards all season. Åberg, especially, has quickly become a fan favorite thanks to his ball-striking and fearless playstyle.
The Course
With Quail Hollow prepping for the PGA, the 2025 Truist Championship will be played at the Wissahickon Course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club—a classic A.W. Tillinghast design loaded with character and challenge. It's not a course that can be overpowered; instead, it rewards thoughtful, precise play, especially off the tee and around its tricky greens.
The layout features narrow fairways, deep bunkers, and some truly punishing rough, meaning accuracy will be more important than sheer distance. One hole that’s sure to catch eyes is the par-5 7th, nicknamed “Great Hazard,” which presents a classic risk-reward decision that could make or break a round.
May weather in Philly can be unpredictable, with winds and shifting conditions potentially playing a factor. Those who can adjust quickly and stay patient will have a big edge. Overall, Wissahickon is a refreshing change of pace and a worthy stage for one of the PGA Tour’s biggest non-major events.
Betting Tips
Rory McIlroy ($6/Top 5 $2.10)
Hard to look past Rory McIlroy here. The Northern Irishman is in career best form, which is a ridiculous statement considering how good he has been over the course of his career. He has already lifted three trophies this year from just six solo starts. In the three tournaments he hasn’t won, he’s finished T17, T15 and T5. Has won this tournament four times already, albeit at a different course.
Max Homa ($166/Top 30 $2.30)
For a little value this week, I like the look of Max Homa. Had an absolute horror start to the season, missing five straight cuts throughout February and March. Has found some form over his last two tournaments though, including a T12 at the Masters. Think the $166 on offer is massive overs if he can bring anything close to his best here.
