Another of the bye rounds meant a reduced schedule of matches for AFL Round 14. The Hawks got over the line against the Crows, while the Giants upset the Lions in the two matches with the biggest impact at the top of the ladder. Meanwhile the Cats have quietly moved into 2nd place on the ladder after thrashing Essendon. Collingwood and Geelong are the two favourites for the premiership.

2025 AFL Brownlow Round 14 Overview
After a week off, Brownlow favourite Bailey Smith was back to doing what he does best with another fantastic performance for Geelong. It will be an interesting round to see who get the votes out of Smith, Max Holmes and Jeremy Cameron who are also having excellent seasons. If Smith gets the three then he might have a handy lead at this point of the count. Connor Rozee, Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong are the other potential contenders who are likely to poll Brownlow votes in Round 14.

2025 AFL Brownlow Votes - Round 14 Match Analysis
St Kilda 8.12.60 def by Western Bulldogs 20.12.132
The Dogs ran wild as they were far too good for a disappointing St Kilda. Sam Darcy returned in style as an unstoppable force up forward with 19 disposals, 9 marks, 8 hitouts and 3 goals. Ed Richards (24 disposals, 8 tackles, 7 clearances, 1 goal), Tom Liberatore (29 disposals, 7 tackles) and Matthew Kennedy (29 disposals, 2 goals) were busy in the middle while Rory Lobb (17 disposals, 9 marks) was a brick wall in defence. Bailey Dale was given no attention as he picked up 36 disposals and 10 marks but most of them were cheap. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (31 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal) and Jack Sinclair (30 disposals, 7 marks) were best for the Saints.
Sam Darcy - 3
Ed Richards - 2
Rory Lobb - 1
Hawthorn 6.11.47 def Adelaide 5.14.44
It was a slippery slog on a cold, dewy night in Launceston as the Hawks willed their way to a hard-fought victory. Jarman Impey (28 disposals, 10 marks) and Josh Weddle (23 disposals, 6 marks) provided plenty of run, while Dylan Moore (23 disposals, 13 tackles) is starting to get back to his best. Ben Keays (18 disposals, 8 tackles, 2 goal) didn’t stop trying for the Crows, while Jordan Dawson (24 disposals, 7 tackles) and Rory Laird (22 disposals) were handy.
Jarman Impey - 3
Josh Weddle - 1
Dylan Moore - 1
Ben Keays - 1
Brisbane 13.18.96 def by GWS Giants 17.5.107
An early injury to full back Jack Payne left Brisbane exposed down back and the Giants took advantage to secure a vital win. Aaron Cadman (5 goals, 19 disposals, 13 marks) and Jesse Hogan (6 goals, 16 disposals, 12 marks) were unstoppable as they both kicked a bag. Lachie Ash (31 disposals, 7 marks), Lachie Whitfield (33 disposals) and Finn Callaghan (32 disposals) were all busy for the Giants. Logan Morris (5 goals, 15 disposals, 7 marks) stood tall for the Lions in a game dominated by the big forwards.
Aaron Cadman - 3
Jesse Hogan - 2
Logan Morris - 1
Essendon 8.8.56 def by Geelong 23.13.151
A huge belting by the Cats over an undermanned Bombers with Jeremy Cameron a star with 6 goals from 14 disposals and 6 marks. He was well fed by Bailey Smith (41 disposals, 7 marks, 6 clearances) and Max Holmes (36 disposals, 8 clearances, 1 goal) and it’s very hard to see the votes coming from outside of those three. Gryan Miers (25 disposals, 6 marks, 1 goal) and Shannon Neale (4 goals, 13 disposals, 9 marks) were also good. Will Setterfield (31 disposals, 7 marks, 10 tackles) and Jye Caldwell (28 disposals, 10 tackles, 8 clearances) tried hard for the Bombers.
Jeremy Cameron - 3
Bailey Smith - 1.5
Max Holmes - 1.5
North Melbourne 10.7.67 def by Fremantle 10.13.73
North were arguably the better team but Freo had a five-minute burst in the second quarter where they kicked four goals which was enough to hold onto the win. Caleb Serong (36 disposals, 10 tackles, 8 clearances, 1 goal) and Andrew Brayshaw (31 disposals, 9 tackles, 9 clearances) were both excellent in the tough conditions, while Shai Bolton (21 disposals, 1 goal) and Luke Jackson (15 disposals, 17 hitouts, 2 goals) were important. Luke Davies-Uniacke (27 disposals, 7 clearances, 1 goal) was amazing early before fading out of the game, while Harry Sheezel (32 disposals, 9 marks, 6 tackles, 1 goal) was very good.
Caleb Serong - 3
Andrew Brayshaw - 2
Luke Davies-Uniacke - 0.5
Harry Sheezel - 0.5
Port Adelaide 14.9.93 def Melbourne 9.14.68
It was arguably the last chance for both of these sides if they still dreamed of competing in finals in season 2025 and it was the Power that would live to fight another day. Mitch Georgiades was a star with 7 goals from 18 disposals and 10 marks in a dominant display. Esava Ratugolea (18 disposals, 13 marks) was just as impressive at the other end of the ground, while Jason Horne-Francis (29 disposals, 7 marks, 7 clearances, 1 goal), Connor Rozee (32 disposals) and Zak Butters (27 disposals) were all busy in the middle. Max Gawn (23 disposals, 8 marks, 36 hitouts) was once again best for the Dees while Kysaiah Pickett (16 disposals, 6 tackles, 3 goals) was great in the first half before dying out of the game.
Mitch Georgiades - 3
Esava Ratugolea - 2
Jason Horne-Francis - 0.5
Connor Rozee - 0.5
West Coast 7.10.52 def by Carlton 12.14.86
The Blues kicked 7 goals before quarter-time before the Eagles kicked 6 of the last 8 goals of the game to add some respectability to the scoreline. George Hewett (35 disposals, 7 clearances) and Adam Cerra (30 disposals, 9 marks) were on top in the middle for Carlton, with Jacob Weitering (23 disposals, 14 marks) strong at half-back and Mitch McGovern (13 disposals, 6 marks, 3 goals) and Lachie Fogarty (17 disposals, 3 goals) doing a job up forward. Harley Reid (28 disposals, 6 marks) and debuting mid-season recruit Tom McCarthy (31 disposals, 6 marks) were best for the Eagles.
George Hewett - 3
Adam Cerra - 2
Harley Reid - 0.5
Tom McCarthy - 0.5

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.
