2023 PGA Tour: Farmers Insurance Open Betting Tips

Farmers Insurance Open Betting Tips

The 2023 PGA Tour continues this weekend as we head to sunny San Diego, California for the annual Farmers Insurance Open. As always, we have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for the event below.

PGA Tour: Farmers Insurance Open Betting Tips

Thursday 26th – Sunday 29th January, Torrey Pines

It was a fantastic week for BYB golf followers at the American Express last week, as we finished the weekend over 4 units up on the back of some good plays. Our $101 pop Chris Kirk missed out on a win by just a few shots, however, three of our four picks finished inside the top 20 for some nice collects. We’ll look to continue that momentum as we look forward to the Farmers Insurance this weekend.

The Field

Jon Rahm took out the American Express on Sunday and will be back in action this week amongst a star-studded cast at Torrey Pines. Joining him at the top of the betting markets will be the likes of Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatrois, Tony Finau and Hideki Matsuyama.

Previous winners of the Farmers Insurance who will be back in an attempt to add another trophy to the case include Luke List, Justin Rose, Rahm and Jason Day, who captured the trophy twice in 2015 and 2018. Two of the last three winners in Patrick Reed and Marc Leishman will not be competing after the defection to LIV Golf.

The Course

Torrey Pines North, Par 72, 7,258 Yards
Torrey Pines South, Par 72, 7,765 Yards

Both the North and the South Course at Torrey Pines will play host to the event once again this year. One of, if not the top-rated course in the world by many outlets, Torrey Pines is the mecca of golf. Players will alternate between the two courses for their Thursday and Friday rounds before those who make the cut will compete on the South Course for the final two days.

Both courses were designed by William P. and William F. Bell back in 1957 but have undergone separate renovations by famous designers Rees Jones and Tom Weikskoph in modern times. The South Course, where the eventual winner will play three of their four rounds, is all about course management at 7,700 yards.

Players will need to be dialled in with long irons, as many of the par fours will require hefty approaches. Because of the difficulty of approach, top tier scramblers often find themselves at the head of the pack at Torrey Pines. Strong long irons and scramblers are what we’ll be targeting this week.

Betting Tips

As always, we’ll be sticking to our format of two top dogs and two dark horses this week. We would encourage a sprinkling of win bets on all four of our tips, however, the value plays we will be heavily into in the ‘Top X Finish’ markets.

Jon Rahm ($5.00)

How can you look past the big Spaniard at the moment. Rahmbo has won the last two tournaments he has played in and comes into this week with a game that is built for Torrey Pines. Is one of the best ball strikers in the world and has had genuine success here in the past with two wins and a further four top 10 finishes in the last six years.

Tony Finau ($15)

Another long hitter who has been good at Torrey Pines in recent years. Since the 2015 season, Tony Finay has competed in nine events at Torrey Pines, finishing in the top 25 on seven occasions. has finished 1st, 7th, 7th and 16th in his last four starts as well.

Jason Day ($21)

Not exactly a super dark horse here but someone that I think still represents value at $21 this week simply due to his scrambling abilities. Jason Day is elite around the greens and his record at Torrey Pines is testament to that, with two wins and a further five top 15 finishes since 2013.

Cameron Champ ($201)

Picking this one off a whim more than anything else. Has never really played well at the course, with just two made cuts from five events, but I think this guy has the power and the distance to not be too phased by the length here, which is more than what you can say for about 70% of the field.

Jon Rahm Win ($5.00 at Bet365) 1 Unit
Tony Finau Win ($5.00 at Bet365) 0.5 Units
Jason Day Win ($5.00 at Bet365) 0.25 Units
Tony Finau Top 10 ($2.60 at Bet365) 2 Units
Jason Day Top 20 ($2.05 at Bet365) 2 Units
Cameron Champ Top 40 ($2.87 at Bet365) 5 Units
