May 14th 2022, 5:09pm, By: Jake Smit

GWS vs Carlton Betting Tips

AFL Round 9 continues on Sunday with three matches on the slate to close out another great weekend. We take you through our best bets for the GWS vs Carlton fixture right here!

As always, we have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for the game and remember to head to our AFL Tips page, where you can catch our coverage of all the Round 9 action.

GWS vs Carlton Betting Tips

Giants Stadium, Sunday 15th May 3:20pm (AEST)

GWS

Injuries: Jack Buckley (Knee), Brent Daniels (Foot), Phil Davis (Hamstring), Jacob Hopper (Knee), Daniel Lloyd (Shoulder)

The Giants don’t have a whole lot to complain about on the injury front at the moment. The only real key outs are Phil Davis and Jacob Hopper who are nursing hamstring and knee injuries, respectively.

The Giants have had probably the toughest fixture in the competition to date in my opinion and coupled with bad form, they are the reasons they currently sit 15th on the ladder with a 2-6 record. Last weekend they were comfortable losers against a classy and experienced Cats outfit, which was a disappointing way to back up their superb performance against the Crows the weekend prior. However, the Giants now have most of their heavy-hitters on the park and should be able to pick up some wins on a more frequent basis moving forward.

Carlton

Injuries: David Cunningham (Knee), Ed Curnow (Calf), Josh Honey (Knee), Jack Martin (Calf), Oscar McDonald (Back), Mitch McGovern (Hamstring), Harry McKay (Knee), Luke Parks (Foot), Marc Pittonet (Knee), Liam Stocker (Shoulder)

Aside from the Eagles, the Blues now have one of the longest injury lists in the competition and some of their outs are very key players to what they do. Harry McKay is a massive out this week, as are Marc Pittonet and Jack Martin.

The of the big improvers in season 2022, the Blues enter this Round 9 fixture sitting in sixth spot on the ladder with an impressive 6-2 record. They were far too strong for the poor sides in the Crows and the Kangaroos in their last two outings, putting up 116 and 114 points, respectively. One big question mark surrounding the Blues at the moment is in regards to their away form so far, which is where they’ve picked up both of their losses from three matches to date. They get the opportunity this weekend to make a statement and solidify a position in the top four.

Match Prediction

The Giants will start this Round 9 clash as the favourites despite being far inferior to their opponents through eight matches. I suspect the reason behind their favouritism is due to home ground advantage as well as this being Leon Cameron’s last match in charge. Usually, I don’t buy into the hype of such circumstances, however, the Giants are capable of some really strong performances and I believe that the team they’re fielding this week is more than capable of matchup up well against a Blues outfit that still have a lot to prove.

Prop Bets

Toby Greene has only played the three matches so far this season due to a lengthy suspension he picked up at the end of 2021. He hasn’t missed a beat in his return however, kicking seven goals from three games, which includes a bag of four against the Crows. He’s one I expect to put in a big shift in an important game for his side.

Toby Greene 3+ Goals ($2.02 Ladbrokes)

Harry Himmelberg started the season in fine form despite his team’s poor results. He kicked multiple goals in each of his first four games before going quiet for a couple of rounds. However, he’s still kicked at least one goal in every game this season and is a good play for 2+ goals this weekend.

Harry Himmelberg 2+ Goals ($1.80 Ladbrokes)

Isaac Cumming has had an underrated season to date in my opinion. He’s silky by foot and that’s the reason why he takes a lot of the kick-outs for the Giants. He’s had 29+ disposals in three of his last four games and remains good value for 25 this weekend

Isaac Cumming 25+ Disposals ($1.72 Ladbrokes)
