It’s Semi-final time in the A League, with two midweek ‘Leg 1’ games scheduled before another couple of teams are eliminated this weekend.
A whopping 75% of the remaining teams are Melbourne-based, leaving Adelaide as the only remaining interstate hope.

Western United vs Melbourne Victory

Western United snuck into the semis with a 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix which hardly came easily.
United were out possessed and matched in regular play, however they’re now into the final four, probably deservedly.
The task will be even taller this week though, as United face an imposing Victory lineup.
The navy blue side of Melbourne have not lost a game in their last five outings and pushed Melbourne City for top spot all the way to the end of the regular season.
Victory will be well rested and fresh coming into the opening leg, which cannot be said for Western United who come off a two-day break.
That could make all the difference, as the Victory will be hard to beat if they put some away goals on the board on Tuesday night.

Adelaide United vs Melbourne City

As predicted, Adelaide advanced through the first round of finals with a convincing win over Central Coast.
The victory continued their stunning run of form, which was extended to five wins in a row on home soil.
That is a hard record to overlook, however equally hard to overlook is the opposition.
Melbourne City have been a cut above all season and their scoring power is unrivalled.
Adelaide will take confidence from their encounters with City this season, the former picking up four points in two matches.
However, City’s class and the promise of a fairy-tale Melbourne derby Grand Final means that I will be tipping City to progress.
