2021-22 A-League: Grand Final Betting Tips

May 26th 2022, 9:28pm, By: Josh Nevett

After a marathon season we are finally down to the final two teams in the A-League – Melbourne City and Western United.

Both are deserving Grand Finalists and will ensure that this is an entertaining affair, one that I believe will see a few goals scored.

Check out our ‘Grand Final’ preview and A-League betting tips below.

A-League Grand Final Betting Tips

Melbourne City vs Western United

Saturday 28th May, 7.45pm (AEDT)

Both these teams have taken different paths to make the big dance.

Western United snuck into the semis with a 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix which hardly came easily, before belting Melbourne Victory in a surprise performance.

On the other hand, Melbourne City automatically progressed to the semis in which they pulled off a hard-fought tie victory over Adelaide United, who were the form team of the back end of the season.

In the regular season, City finished as the minor premier four points clear of United who were third in the standings.

Interestingly, Western United have the advantage in head-to-head history. The green side of Melbourne have not lost in four prior fixtures against City, winning three of those matches.

That kind of record is crucial to taking confidence into Grand Final day, so John Aloisi’s team will back themselves to get the job done.

However, City will also have faith in the riches of talent they have to deploy, including Golden Boot winner Jamie Maclaren who scored again against Adelaide last weekend.

The game will be played at Aami Park, which favours City as a home venue, however the fact that the game is in Melbourne should see both teams supported well.

This year’s decider is a tough one to split on paper. While City have been the standouts all year, Western United’s record against their Melbourne rivals is outstanding and as such I am going for an upset.

Western United to win

$4.25
