NRL Round 4: Bulldogs vs Dragons Preview & Betting Tips

June 7th 2020, 11:03am, By: matta91

Things may be pretty different in the year 2020, but the the annual Queen’s Birthday clash continues as the Bulldogs and Dragons collide on Monday afternoon. This should be a great clash with both teams looking to bounce back from disappointing performances in Round 3. Here's our free preview and NRL tips for the match below.

NRL Round 4 Betting Tips

Bulldogs vs Dragons (Monday, June 8th 4:05pm)

This is arguably one of the toughest games on the Round 4 schedule to predict after both sides were disappointing (to say the least) last week. Starting with the Dragons, they had no answers for the Warriors last Saturday and it showed on the scoreboard as they failed to score a single point. But you can’t question the work ethic of skipper Cameron McInnes after a mammoth 75 tackles in his return from a MCL. So hopefully the captain and Paul McGregor can inspire the Dragons into producing a much improved showing on Monday. That starts with a few team changes, highlighted by Cory Norman moving to fullback. Adam Clune will make his debut at halfback and could take the pressure off Ben Hunt. Korbin Sims has been dropped and Josh Kerr will come into the run on side.

It’s a pretty similar story for the Bulldogs as they were crushed by Manly 32-6 last Sunday night. Their defence is usually much better but the likes of Tom Trbojevic had different ideas. With their attack already struggling to produce points in the last few seasons, their defensive structure is the key in a return to form. There’s two reasons to be confident in a return to form as well - the Dragons were shutout last week and Kieran Foran is back from injury. So that should give the team a bit more confidence in their ability to score points. Jack Cogger will make way for the return of Foran in the only team change for the Dogs from last week’s defeat.

Last season, the Dragons smashed the Bulldogs on both occasions, 36-12 and 40-4. But after last week’s effort (or lack thereof), we just can’t see St. George producing anything near those results. So with the odds locked at $1.90 apiece, we feel this will be a close finish between two sides that struggled to score points in Round 3.

Zac Lomax

Obviously, no Dragons player was able to get over the line last week but in the first 2 rounds, Lomax found the try-line in both games against Penrith and Wests. He’s back in the centres in Round 4 but he’s proven to be a versatile option in the Dragons backline after playing fullback/wing earlier this season. So the position change shouldn’t be a concern. It also helps that the Bulldogs gave up 6 of their 7 tries to outside backs last week. Love his value at Sportsbet.
