2020 AFL Brownlow Medal Votes Round 6

July 13th 2020, 7:50pm, By: Brownlow Bandit

Another strange round of the 2020 AFL season is in the books, with all clubs enjoying hub life without any AFL in Victoria for the time being. The players would've enjoyed playing in front of some fans for the first time this season, and while most of the Brownlow Medal contenders struggled, there were some players of the future who made a big impression. We've taken a close look at the Round 6 action and updated our rolling 2020 Brownlow Medal leaderboard so read on for our break down of every match and our Round 6 Brownlow vote predictions.

Our Brownlow Medal predictions and rolling Brownlow Medal tracker allow you to keep an eye on the Brownlow betting markets throughout the season, so that you can build a green book so that by the time the 2020 Brownlow Medal night rolls around we’re assured of a profit!

You’ll be able to stay up to date with our live 2020 Brownlow Medal leaderboard, while there will be links to round-by-round voting posted there.

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.

If you intend on using our Brownlow votes to bet why not consider one of the best Australian sports betting sites which offer some great features for new customers. Round 6 Brownlow Medal Votes

Lachie Neale may have missed votes for the first time this season, but most of the other contenders also struggled in some wet and wintery conditions in Round 6. Meanwhile Dylan Shiel went and got himself suspended after looking like an outside Brownlow hope last week. Let's take a look at each match from Round 6 with our Brownlow vote predictions!

Geelong 11.7.73 def Brisbane 6.10.46

The Cats piled it on in the third quarter to setup a big win over the Lions and confirm themselves as a premiership contender. After some early injuries to key players, Patrick Dangerfield overcame a slow start to be at his brutal best as he accumulated 26 disposals and 8 clearances. Sam Menegola (26 disposals, 2 goals) is in great form at the moment, while Sam Simpson impressed in his first AFL game in over 700 days with 27 disposals. Up forward Tom Hawkins (15 disposals, 6 marks, 3 goals) was instrumental. Lachie Neale (26 disposals, 1 goal) was best for the Lions but may struggle for a vote.

Patrick Dangerfield – 3
Sam Menegola – 2
Tom Hawkins – 0.5
Sam Simpson – 0.5

Collingwood 8.11.59 def Hawthorn 3.9.27

The Pies shot out of the blocks and never looked back against a poor Hawthorn team that could only manage their lowest-ever score under Clarko’s reign as coach. Adam Treloar was prolific with 35 disposals and 6 clearances, Darcy Moore (21 dispoals, 6 marks) patrolled across half-back and Brody Mihocek finished the work up forward with 4 goals. Tom Mitchell was getting back to his best with 33 disposals, while James Sicily had his best game for the year with 28 disposals and 14 marks.

Adam Treloar – 3
Darcy Moore – 2
Brody Mihocek – 0.5
James Sicily – 0.5

Fremantle 12.7.79 def St.Kilda 11.7.73

An amazing comeback from Freo who fought back from 37 points down in the second term to record a gutsy win over St.Kilda who will be left ruing the one that got away. Michael Walters was one of the best for Freo with 26 disposals and 8 clearances, and he was supported by Andrew Brayshaw (20 disposals, 6 marks) and Nat Fyfe (18 disposals, 2 goals) who was restricted to the goal square in the second half. Jack Steele (22 disposals) tried hard for the Saints.

Michael Walters – 3
Andrew Brayshaw – 2
Nat Fyfe – 1

West Coast 10.7.67 def Adelaide 5.4.34

The Eagles have their season back on track with a solid win against the bottom-of-the-table Crows. Tim Kelly was back to his best with 24 disposals and 8 clearances, with Dom Sheed (24 disposals, 5 clearances) and Elliot Yeo (21 disposals) providing good support. Jeremy McGovern was a rock in defence with 17 disposals and 12 marks. Brodie Smith won plenty of ball with 31 disposals and a goal, while Reilly O’Brien got the points in the much-hyped ruck duel with Nic Nat. O’Brien ended with 19 disposals, 9 marks, 7 tackles and 12 hitouts.

Tim Kelly – 3
Dom Sheed – 2
Brodie Smith – 0.5
Jeremy McGovern – 0.5

Melbourne 12.8.80 def Gold Coast 9.9.63

Melbourne held their nerve to grab the points against the Suns. Skipper Max Gawn led the way with 30 hitouts in the middle to go with 15 disposals and 8 marks. He fed the brigade of Clayton Oliver (24 disposals, 8 clearances), Jack Viney (21 disposals, 8 tackles) and Christian Petracca (25 disposals, 6 clearances, 2 goals). Touk Miller (23 disposals) worked hard for the Suns, while Izak Rankine sizzled on debut with 3 goals from his 12 touches.

Max Gawn – 3
Christian Petracca – 2
Clayton Oliver – 0.5
Jack Viney – 0.5

Essendon 9.13.67 def North Melbourne 7.11.53

The Bombers are quietly going about their business this season as they dispatched of the Roos. With Dylan Shiel well held by Luke McDonald, Andrew McGrath (25 disposals, 8 tackles), Darcy Parish (21 disposals, 7 clearances, 6 tackles) and Devon Smith (23 disposals, 6 tackles) stepped up, while David Zaharakis played his best game for a long time with 20 disposals and 3 goals. Todd Goldstein (30 hitouts, 19 disposals, 6 clearances, 1 goal) won the ruck battle and Jy Simpkin (23 disposals, 7 clearances, 6 tackles) was again one of the best for the Roos.

Andrew McGrath – 3
David Zaharakis – 2
Todd Goldstein – 1

Port Adelaide 9.9.63 def GWS 6.10.46

The Power continues to remain on top of the ladder after overcoming the threat of the Giants. In the absence of Tom Rockliff, Dan Houston stepped up to collect 22 disposals, along with Sam Powell-Pepper (22 disposals, 1 goal) and Kane Farrell (19 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 goal). Lachie Whitfield (25 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal) was left alone for GWS, while Toby Greene (21 disposals) looked dangerous. Tough game for votes with no clear stand out performers.

Kane Farrell – 2
Dan Houston – 2
Sam Powell-Pepper – 1
Lachie Whitfield - 1

Richmond 4.10.34 def Sydney 3.8.26

Richmond got the points in an ugly, wet slog against the Swans. Jayden Short (26 disposals, 9 marks), Kane Lambert (22 disposals, 7 marks, 6 tackles) and Kamdyn McIntosh (24 disposals) enjoyed the conditions to fill the gap of the missing stars. For the Swans, Callum Mills did nothing in the first quarter before ending with 29 disposals, while Jake Lloyd also racked up 24 disposals for the Swans.

Kane Lambert – 3
Jayden Short – 1.5
Callum Mills – 1.5

Carlton 16.7.103 def Western Bulldogs 7.9.51

The Blues are in the top eight after a thumping win over the Bulldogs. Matthew Kennedy (20 disposals) and Will Setterfield (20 disposals) were important in the middle after an early injury to Patrick Cripps. Eddie Bets (14 disposals, 4 goals) and Harry McKay (9 disposals, 3 goals) hit the scoreboard with great efficiency. The Dogs midfield won plenty of ball but that wasn’t enough to get the points. Lachie Hunter (27 disposals), Bailey Smith (26 disposals, 1 goal) and Tom Liberatore (22 disposals, 8 clearances) were among their best. Tricky game for voting.

Will Setterfield – 2
Matthew Kennedy – 2
Bailey Smith – 1
Eddie Betts - 1
