It is the final match of the regular season for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) when they take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the match #55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 season. There is a slight possibility of CSK dropping out of the Top 2, which is why they will be gunning for a win. For Punjab, the doors of the playoffs have almost closed out.
Chennai have a 13-8 edge over Punjab in historical encounters and have won five of the last six. It is a bit tighter in matches played at this venue, though, with CSK holding a 3-2 lead over Kings XI.

Kings XI Punjab Preview
A dream start to the campaign raised hopes of a successful season, but Kings XI have now lost their last four games. In fact, they have lost six of their last seven IPL matches and are now staring at a bottom-half finish.
The dependence on KL Rahul (522 runs) and Chris Gayle (462 runs) continues to be Kings XI’s achilles heel this season. In addition, they have struggled to be effective with the ball, as only Ravichandran Ashwin (15 wickets) and Mohammed Shami (17 wickets) have been among the wickets. Shami’s injury could be another worry, as is Andrew Tye’s poor returns.
Chennai Super Kings Preview
Already into the playoffs, Chennai are looking to book their spot in the Top 2. They have a two-point lead over Mumbai and Delhi before the weekend matches. Even if Mumbai or Delhi win their games, CSK still have their fortunes in their hands. A win over Kings XI will confirm their place in Qualifier I.
The worries for MS Dhoni's side, however, go beyond the result. As the playoffs approach, the batsmen do not look to be in any great touch and are struggling to show impact. Bowling has largely been about Imran Tahrir (21 wickets) and even Deepak Chahar’s early form is showing signs of slowing down.

KL Rahul has had a dream campaign, scoring 522 runs so far at a SR of 129.85. He has six 50+ scores to his name and would be looking to come good at the right moment for Kings XI Punjab.
Deepak Chahar has been the standout pace bowler for Chennai this season, with 16 wickets at an ER of 7.55. His economy may have taken a hit in the recent games, but Mohali conditions could suit his bowling.
MS Dhoni has been the backbone of CSK campaign. To go with his calm presence in the middle, Dhoni has been CSK’s best batsman (358 runs, SR 142.62).
