The 2019 Formula 1 season continues this weekend as we head to the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore for the annual Singapore Grand Prix! We have a full preview and betting tips for the weekend’s action below!
It’s been a fantastic run for Charles Leclerc and the Ferraris since the recommencement of the F1 season after the mid-season break. The young driver from Monaco won in both Belgium and Italy to move ahead of his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, into fourth place on the 2019 drivers’ standings.
While they haven’t been able to pick up a win, the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas have continued their dominance in the 2019 season, both finishing on the podium in Belgium and Italy. Hamilton sits 63 points clear atop the drivers standings, a virtual unassailable lead, while Bottas sits in second place, a further 36 points clear of third placed Max Verstappen.
It’s been an extremely testing year for Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel. The German star is yet to record a win in the 2019 season and had a disappointing finish in Italy last week, finishing in 13th place.
The innaugral night race of the F1 calendar, the Singapore Grand Prix has been raced at the Marina Bay Street Circuit since the 2008 season. At just over 5km in length, the Marina Bay Circuit was designed by KBR, Inc and was a modification of the original Hermann Tilke design. The circuit is a pretty tricky one and holds a unique record for having at least one safety car appearance in every F1 race to date.
The track has been criticized by drivers because of it’s bumpy nature and has been called one of the hardest tracks on the F1 circuit. Drivers have to mentally switched on as well as physically prepared for the challenge of the Marina Bay Circuit and any driver wanting to win in Singapore will need to be perfect throughout the race.
Since the Singapore Grand Prix was reinstated back in 2008, the pair of Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have had a strangle hold on the event. Between them, they have won eight of the 11 races, each picking up the title on four different occasions.
The British superstar has won the event the past two years in a row and given that the best technical driver in the pack usually walks away with the crown in Singapore, there’s no wonder that Hamilton has dominated here in the past few years.
After some disappointing performances by his lofty standards over the past few weeks, there is some great value floating around Hamilton this weekend.
