NBL Round 9 Betting Tips
Cairns Taipans vs Melbourne United
Friday, 7:30pm AEDT
The Taipans split their two games in Round 8 and not in the way you would’ve expected. They knocked off the defending champion Perth Wildcats and lost to the bottom-of-the-ladder Hawks. On the other hand, Melbourne United continued their winning form with a comfortable victory over the Bullets at home. That win made it six in a row for United and has seen their title odds shorten right up to about 3-1. For us, we can’t go past the winning form of United here. They’re by far the better team and should have no problem edging out the Taipans on the road. We see them winning by around 8-12 points.

NZ Breakers vs Illawarra Hawks
Saturday, 5:30pm AEDT
The Breakers are in a world of trouble at the moment and matters were only made worse when they were beaten easily by the 36ers last weekend. That made it five losses in a row for the Breakers, which has seen them fall to the bottom of the ladder with a 2-8 record. In contrast, the Hawks claimed their third win of the campaign last weekend when they beat the Taipans in an overtime thriller, which lifted them off the bottom of the ladder. LaMelo Ball was tremendous with a 32/11/13 split and became the youngest man in NBL history to record a triple double in the process. Despite the poor form from the Breakers, we believe they have a fantastic opportunity to snap their losing streak with a win over the Hawks who haven’t travelled at all well this season and lack quality to back up good performances.
Brisbane Bullets vs SE Melbourne Phoenix
Saturday, 8:00pm AEDT
The Bullets split their two games in Round 8 by beating the 36ers and losing to Melbourne United. In a way, that round represented their season as a whole as they just can’t seem to string together good performances. They're now 5-6 on the season and are in sixth spot on the table. Meanwhile, Phoenix look to have lost a bit of their early season form and are now in real danger of slipping outside the top four. They’ve had the best schedule to start the season with seven of their 10 games being at home, but that's all about to change as they hit the road with more regularity. We expect Phoenix to find it tough on their travels with the top-heavy roster they possess, which means we fancy the Bullets to get the win on Saturday night.

Sydney Kings vs Melbourne United
Sunday, 3:00pm AEDT
The match of the round sees the two championship fancies going head to head in Sydney. The Kings have been the best team all season and come into this game having lost just once, while United have won six on the spin, which is the best current win streak in the competition. These clubs have already met once this season and it was United who got the job done at home by three points. However, now in Sydney for Game 2, we expect the Kings to get revenge and end United’s big streak.
Perth Wildcats vs Adelaide 36ers
Sunday, 5:00pm AEDT
The final game of the round will be in Western Australia with the Wildcats hosting the 36ers. The Wildcats struggled without Terrico White last weekend when they fell to the Taipans for the second time this season. They’ve now lost four games and will give up a top two spot if they can’t turn things around sooner rather than later. On the other hand, the 36ers are coming off a big 17-point win over the Breakers and have a chance to level up their record at 6-6 with a win here. We expect this game to go down to the wire with each team having equal opportunities to win, which means we favour the 36ers to cover the spread.
