2018-19 EPL: Week 8 Preview & Betting Tips

October 4th 2018, 6:41pm, By: admin

There are a whole host of exciting English Premier League matches taking place in Week 8. However, none are bigger than the top-of-the-table clash featuring Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday night. Here, we’ve covered that huge game and a few others that have tickled our fancy. Check out all our best bets below.

EPL Week 8 Betting Tips

Liverpool vs Manchester City (Monday 2:30am AEST)
Preview

The first of our Week 8 tips comes from the huge Liverpool vs Manchester City clash, which takes place at Anfield in the early hours on Monday morning (AEST). Now, this may sound a bit silly considering there’s still 30 matches to play in the season, but this match has huge implications on who will be lifting the trophy at the end of Week 38. Both teams come into this with 19 of a maximum 21 points achieved and both teams will be desperate to stay undefeated in their 2018-19 campaigns. It should be an absolute cracker.

Liverpool haven’t been in the sort of form that they’d like to be in leading up to this match, but the one thing that would be pleasing coach Jurgen Klopp is their ability to ‘win ugly’, which is something that’s eluded them in previous seasons. Another thing that has to be pleasing the coaching staff and their fans is the increased stability in defence. Liverpool have conceded just 3 goals in 7 games so far this season, which is equal with Manchester City for the best defensive record in the league. At home however, they haven’t conceded at all, with 8 goals for and 0 goals against in 3 games.

Manchester City have had their road bumps, too. They dropped points in what was expected to be a straight forward win against a newly-promoted Wolves outfit earlier this season and also suffered a bizarre loss at home to Ligue 1 side Lyon in the UCL group stage. For the most part though, they’ve looked every bit of the side that blitzed the Premier League last season on their wat to becoming champions of England with plenty of games to spare.

Prediction
This will be a hotly fought battle between arguably the two biggest title threats this season. Both teams boast attacks that would scare the best defences in the world, which should make for a thrilling watch. In terms of the result, we lean towards to home side here. In this same fixture last season the Reds came out victorious by 4 goals to 3, with 2 of City’s goals coming in the last 5 minutes. We are expecting another high scoring contest, and were tempted to go with the over’s, but are happy to back in the home side at juicy odds.

Crystal Palace vs Wolverhampton (Sunday 12am AEST)

This is the first of the weekend’s less talked about matches that we have found great value in.

Crystal Palace has had and OK start to the season, well, an excellent start to the season if you compare it to their last campaign where they had 0 points after 7 matches. This time around they have 2 wins and 1 draw from 7 matches, and interestingly, both of their wins have come away from home. At home they have just 1 point from 3 matches. On the other hand, Wolverhampton have been remarkable. In their last 5 league games they’ve won 3 and drawn 2, with their draws coming against Manchester United (away) and Manchester City (home). Incredible form considering this is their first season in England’s top flight since 2011-12.

We have the Wolves being too strong for the Eagles in this one.

Burnley vs Huddersfield (Sunday 12am AEST)

After a horrid start to the season, Burnley have finally found some form. They’ve now won 2 games on the spin and have moved out of the relegation zone and into 12th position in the standings. Many experts are crediting their departure from the Europa League as the turn in fortune for the Clarets, who have an extremely thin squad if forced to play in multiple competitions. Their opposition this week is in the form of bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield Town. As many predicted prior to the season starting, Huddersfield have really struggled to score goals. They lack genuine quality in the front third and don’t have the stability in the back to make up for it. Unfortunately, it’s very hard to see them staying up in the top flight this season.

We see the Clarets making light work of their opposition here.
