November 9th 2017, 1:20am, By: SmitsTips

A disappointing week for us last week hitting on 1/3 of our Round 5 NBL tips. However, that was the first non-profitable week for us for the season and we are confident that we will bounce back this week. Join us here as we look forward to the upcoming games and preview our NBL Round 6 betting tips!

2017-18 NBL Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips

New Zealand Breakers Vs Perth Wildcats (Thursday, 9th November 5:30pm AEST)

It’s a battle of the top teams in the league when the Perth Wildcats travel to New Zealand to take on the Breakers. The Breakers (6-1) are the form team of the league at the moment and have won all 6 games since their season opening defeat to Cairns. The Breakers have been good in the clutch this season, with 4 of their wins being by 5 points or less. Edgar Sosa has been the man so far, breaking out as an early MVP candidate on the back of impressive averages (15.1ppg, 4.1apg) and Tom Abercrombie (14ppg, 4.9rpg) continues to fill it up.

The Wildcats (5-1) have been a force in the league for years now and it looks like they’re in for another successful season in 2017-18. New recruit JP Tokoto (15.5ppg, 5.2rpg) may well be the most athletic player the NBL has ever seen and has proven too hard to handle for some defences this season. Add in Bryce Cotton’s offense (16.2ppg) and you are talking about one of the most potent offensive teams in the league.

Although the Breakers have won their last 6 games, we feel that they still have a lot to prove before we take them over the reigning champions. We expect a close game, but believe that the Wildcats will take the W here.

TIP: Perth Wildcats at the line (+1.5) - $1.90 at Sportsbet

Cairns Taipans Vs Melbourne United (Thursday, 9th November 7:30pm AEST)

The Taipans (3-5) have had a disappointing start to the season and will come up against a potent Melbourne United outfit at home in this matchup. Since losing big man Nate Jawai to injury early in the season the Taipans have really struggled to rebound the basketball. They are one of the smallest teams in the league and rely heavily on guards helping to crash the boards. Michael Carrera (17.3ppg, 4.5rpg) has been a shining light for the Taipans and leads them in points and rebounds per game.

Melbourne United (4-3) had a great week in Round 5 and managed to collect double-digit wins in their games against the Taipans and 36ers. United were 0-3 with Chris Goulding back in the starting line-up, but after last week’s wins it seems like they’re finally starting to gel as a team. Their star players continue to stuff the stat sheet, with Casper Ware (16.3ppg, 5.3apg) and Casey Prather (18.4ppg, 5.1rpg) enjoying great starts to the season.

Melbourne United unsurprisingly come into this game as favourites and should have too much fire power for the Taipans to keep up with. Expect United to win comfortably here.

TIP: Melbourne United at the line (-1.5) - $1.90 at CrownBet

Melbourne United Vs Sydney Kings (Saturday, 11th November 5:30pm AEST)

In their second game of the week, Melbourne United will host the Sydney Kings (2-6). Things have gone from bad to worse for the Kings and they find themselves alone at the bottom of the ladder after losing by double-digits in both of their matches in Round 5. The absence of star player Kevin Lisch is really hurting the Kings and it doesn’t look like things are going to turn around any time soon. Perry Ellis (19.3ppg, 5.5rpg) has been their lone shining light and leads the league in points per game.

With the Kings coming off a couple of big defeats in recent weeks it’s no surprise that they come into this game against Melbourne United as huge underdogs. Melbourne United are still the Bookies favourite to win the title this year and if they are going to go deep in the season they have to win these types of games against struggling opposition. We expect United to blowout the Kings in this one and cover the line easily.

TIP: Melbourne United at the line (-7.5) - $1.90 at Ladbrokes
