2014 AFL: Round 6 Preview and Betting Tips

April 25th 2014, 1:04pm, By: admin

Round 5 of the 2014 AFL Season was a tough one, with plenty of results surprising punters all around the country - the Pies easily smashed the Roos, Sydney crushed Freo, the Saints overcame the Dons, the Blues beat the Dogs and the Cats outdid the Hawks. Hopefully Round 6 of the 2014 AFL Season proves a little easier, though still gives us plenty of excitement and that’s very likely considering we have some ANZAC Day blockbusters and more. Check out Before You Bet’s 2014 AFL Round 6 preview, betting tips and tipping advice below.

2014 AFL Round 6 Preview

The game that kicks off Round 6 of the 2014 AFL season is one of the most hotly anticipated games of the year, the ANZAC day clash - Collingwood Magpies Vs. Essendon Bombers. There will be a monster crowd at the MCG from 2:20pm in what is sure to be a ripping game – for the Magpies that is. They are just in great form at the moment and although the Dons are known to lift for big games like this, they simply struggled versus a not-all-that impressive Saints last week, while the Pies looked fantastic against the Roos. Pride won’t let the Dons lose by more than five goals, so we are liking the Pies in a close one as one of our best bets of the week.

There are two more games being played on ANZAC Day, one of them being St Kilda Saints Vs. Brisbane Lions in Wellington, New Zealand. The Saints are probably the biggest over performer of the year, somehow sitting at 3 wins, 2 losses when we probably expected them to be closer to 1 win, 4 losses. Nick Reiwoldt is simply crushing in career best form and really helping the Saints confidence levels. The Lions are probably underperforming at the moment and will be very happy to have Daniel Merrett and Pearce Hanley back in the side. Considering the Lions in a close one as a value play for the week, considering those two big ins and the fact the Lions played last Thursday night, having two extra days rest than the Saints leading into an overseas trip.

The final ANZAC Day clash is Fremantle Dockers Vs. Nth Melbourne Kangaroos. To put it simply, the Dockers have won 19 of their last 20 at Patersons Stadium and the Roos haven’t won in Western Australia since 2001. The Roos were shocking last week and the Dockers should be too strong, winning by at least three goals.

On Saturday we will the Gary Ablett and his Suns too strong in the Gold Coast Suns Vs. GWS Giants game, while Saturday afternoon’s Carlton Blues Vs. West Coast Eagles should be a closer one. The Blues were very gallant against the Dogs last week, but let’s not forget how bad they were before that. Being at Etihad is in the Blues favour, but happy to get some money on the Eagles. Saturday night is pretty cut and dry – the Swans too strong in the Melbourne Demons Vs. Sydney Swans.

Sunday poses a couple of interesting games, especially the first game of the day – Western Bulldogs Vs. Adelaide.  The Dogs were disappointing last week, but prior to that were showing plenty of promise. The Crows dominated the Giants last week on the back of an amazing Patrick Dangerfield performance. One problem with the Crows is they haven’t given those performances against any teams good enough to really convince us the Crows are the real deal. This game is at Etihad, a big advantage for the Dogs considering they have won the last five here against the Crows. The Bulldogs should bounce back in a close one.

It’s too hard to bet on the Richmond Tigers Vs. Hawthorn Hawks game as you never know what you are going to get with the Tigers. The Hawks should easily win, but the 33.5 point line is tough. Leaving this game alone. The Port Adelaide Power Vs. Geelong Cats game on the other hand is a different story. This is 1st against 2nd and is going to be a cracker. It’s in Adelaide and the Cats have had two days less rest than the Power, but they were so good against the Hawks and have won the last 10 straight against the Power. Tough game, leaning towards the Power in a close one, but going to sleep on it before pulling the trigger.
