Welcome to our harness racing preview and tips for Gloucester Park on Tuesday, April 2nd.
There's eight races on the card and we've picked out our three best bets below!
Valentines Brook is a well-bred 2YO that is a half-brother to Our Waikiki Beach and Bechers Brook. He was held up on debut behind Marcotti and Keptain Courageous in the Listed Western Crown Final (1730m). If he can kick up to lead from barrier one, then Valentines Brook is the horse to beat and will take plenty of catching. Farawayeyes has been impressive in two starts at Pinjarra. The widest barrier is a huge concern for the filly. I have Valentines Brook a $1.85 chance in this race from the good draw.
There’s not a lot of value in the early fixed odds market with both Murphys Bettor and Our Burling at $2.50 or less. One of the pair is the likely winner of the race. It could be peg dominated with Ignite The Passion receiving a great run behind Murphys Bettor. Jilliby Jake will either trail Our Burling unless Murphys Bettor hands up to that horse or go to the pegs to follow Ignite The Passion. I’m happy to play a skinny trifecta in the race revolving around the two favourites winning and running second, Ignite The Passion and Jilliby Jake finishing third.
Alex Pollizzi is the horse to beat from barrier one and she has been runner up at her past three starts. She has raced outside of the leader on all three occasions and will appreciate being in front this time. It isn’t the strongest field with most of them having a winning strike rate less than 10%. Alex Pollizzi is one of them with a 9% strike rate with three wins from 33 starts. Another is my pick, Show You The Stars, with one win from 19 starts at 5%. For that reason, I am happy to oppose the odds-on favourite and back Show You The Stars at $4.80 or better. She ran sixth first-up and the run was full of merit. She can be dangerous late.

St Kilda's finals hopes go on the line when they take on North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium in Sunday's Round 20 clash. The Saints missed an opportunity to strengthen their top-eight push with a loss to Geelong last week, while the Kangaroos continue to show plenty of fight despite another narrow defeat.
The two time reigning premiers continue their charge towards the finals when they take on Port Adelaide at the Gabba. Despite their ladder position, Port Adelaide have been extremely competitive this season, so this should be an intriguing clash.
