Harness Racing Tips: Gloucester Park - Friday February 1st

February 1st 2019, 2:52pm, By: Trent Orwin

After some big results last Friday night, our harness racing expert, Trent Orwin, is back with his harness racing tips for Gloucester Park this Friday night. Check out his best bets below:

Gloucester Park Harness Racing Tips

RACE 2

Leading over the 1730m at Gloucester Park is a huge advantage and that is what Bronze Seeker and Wesley will be trying to do. Bronze Seeker led throughout three starts ago when defeating Benhope Rulz who would subsequently go on to claim the Nights of Thunder Final. Wesley was in that Final and he led before finishing seventh in 1:54.4.

We will get two chances with Bronze Seeker from barrier one. He will either be able to hold out Wesley at the start and prove hard to run down or may still get a chance to run him down in the home straight if he is crossed at the start. Both runs since his victory over Benhope Rulz have been good and Bronze Seeker will go close tonight.

RACE 5

The open class fillies and mares event looks an excellent race with Mary Catherine leading from barrier one and Miss Sangrial likely to drop in behind her for the trail. Maczaffair will have to race outside of the leader while Lady De La Renta will be close from barrier four.

Banjup trainer Annie Belton has two mares with very similar ability. Gotta Go Gabbana isn’t in the race but she defeated Mary Catherine a fortnight ago; Belton prepares Lady De La Renta here and that mare is my tip in the race. The four-year-old has won four of seven this season to date. She beat Mary Catherine last start and before that was only beaten 2.4m by Maczaffair who led. Expect her to go close here in an open contest.

RACE 6

Vultan Tin looks hardest to beat in the Group 2 Perth Cup (2536m) but I don’t think he represents any value in the race. It is a difficult FFA event to line up with the barrier draw making the race intriguing. Former WA Derby winner Handsandwheels finished fourth behind Vultan Tin last week after racing 1 out 3 back. He hit the line better than any other horse in the race and from barrier three, he should be able to quickly drop in behind El Jacko in the moving line. That is, unless Aiden De Campo believes he can cross Vultan Tin at the start.

The longer distance will suit Handsandwheels because he should just bide his time in the race. There are some enforcers which will also help the sit-sprinters. Gotta Go Gabbana and/or Eden Franco could stake their claim for the breeze position which will help El Jacko, Always Arjay and Handsandwheels.
