EPL 2026-27: Matchday 6 Preview & Betting Tips
Arsenal vs Leeds
Emirates Stadium, Saturday 10th October, 10:30pm AEDT
It’s a battle of second versus fifth at the Emirates to kick off Matchday 6, when Arsenal host Leeds. Leeds have been one of the biggest surprises to start this season, going unbeaten through the first five games of the season to be in fifth place after finishing fourteenth last season. Arsenal come into this game off the back of their first loss of the season, a comprehensive 3-0 defeat against Brighton. The manner of the defeat was a shock considering the Gunners had only conceded one goal through the opening four games of the season.
Arsenal certainly were losers of the international break with Kai Havertz, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis all picking up injuries on national duties. Leeds on the other hand have a clean bill of health and will come into this week with one of the smallest injury lists in the Premier League. Leeds will have to overcome a dreadful record against Arsenal, having lost seven straight Premier League matches against the defending champions.
Leeds’ improvement has come on the back of their defence, which has been vastly better than last season. Leeds were the 11th ranked defence in season ‘25/’26 conceding 56 goals, and although it’s a small sample size, Leeds are the equal best defence this season having conceded just 3 goals. The defending champions have grinded out results this season, but haven’t blown teams out of the water. Leeds have been stingy in defence and they can keep this close enough against an Arsenal side that haven’t been potent in front of goal.

Aston Villa vs Brentford
Villa Park, Sunday 11th October, 1:00am AEDT
Aston Villa will be looking to turn their season around when they host fourth placed Brentford on Sunday morning. Villa are 16th after a 1-1-3 start, however they did pick up their only win of the season in their last game, a dramatic 3-2 win over Tottenham where they almost gave up a 3-0 lead. Brentford have had a dream start to this season with an unbeaten start through five games to be in fourth place on the Premier League table.
Brentford’s balance at both ends of the pitch has been impressive, being the equal second best defence in the league (4 goals conceded) and the third best attacking side (10 goals scored). They’ve managed to do this despite not being a high possession side where they rank 15th, it’s been high impact, low possession for the Bees. After ranking seventh in the league for goals scored last season, Villa have been well off the mark this season, scoring 4 goals from 5 games, with 3 of those coming in their last game.
Brentford have been a model of consistency this season and will be full of confidence after their 3-0 win against Chelsea before the international break. Aston Villa are yet to win a game at home this season, so Villa Park will not hold any fears for an in-form Brentford outfit. The Bees have won their last two games against Aston Villa and they will continue their good form against them this weekend.

Liverpool vs Manchester City
Anfield, Monday 12th October, 2:30am AEDT
Sometimes the football gods deliver, and Manchester City’s first game post being found guilty of over 100 breaches of financial rules, coming against Liverpool is somewhat poetic justice. Liverpool have finished second to Manchester City on three occasions since 2014 and certainly would be the most aggrieved club of Man City’s wrongdoing. Anfield is going to be incredibly hostile on Monday morning, adding another chapter to the best Premier League rivalry of the last decade.
City’s 5-3 win over Sunderland on Matchday 5 has left Enzo Maresca’s side as the only team with a perfect record. Manchester City are the 2nd ranked attack in the Premier League (13 goals scored) and have been solid in defence conceding just 5 goals, with 3 of those coming in their last game. Liverpool have had a strange start to the season, unbeaten through five games although they’ve only won two, which sees them seventh on the table. The Reds defence has been outstanding, conceding only 3 goals - equal second best in the league.
Manchester City have certainly produced great form so far this season, however it’s difficult to know if the noise around them over the past fortnight will affect them on the pitch. Liverpool have already played in three draws this season and five of the last twelve Premier League fixtures between Liverpool and City have ended in a draw. Liverpool will look to drag Man City into a slog to dismantle City’s attacking weapons, so the draw provides good value in what is set to be a tense affair.
