2024 AFL Brownlow Medal Round 7 Votes

April 30th 2024, 12:17pm, By: Brownlow Bandit

Geelong are the only undefeated team after Round 7 of the 2024 AFL season after they defeated Carlton in an epic clash at the MCG. Collingwood, Melbourne, Sydney and the GWS Giants appear to be the other main challengers for the 2024 premiership. We're looking forward to a classic between Carlton and Collingwood next week, while the battle of the bridge between Sydney and GWS should be huge!

Meanwhile the pressure builds on Brisbane who are now desperate to find some winning form if they are to stay in contention in season 2024.

As usual, we’ll share our thoughts from every match of the AFL season, along with our Brownlow vote predictions and projections using our own system which has a proven profitable history over many years. For full details on how it works, see the section at the bottom of the page. We hope you'll use our free Brownlow tips to help you find value during the season and built a green book before the big night.

2024 AFL Brownlow Round 7 Overview

Round 7 of the 2024 AFL season is in the books and it's still Isaac Heeney with a clear lead in the 2024 Brownlow Medal race. The Swans superstar was in the votes again in Round 7 and could have a sizeable early lead. He's the clear $5 Brownlow favourite in the Brownlow betting markets right now.

Hot on his heels is 2022 Brownlow Medallist Patrick Cripps who knows how to poll well, even when Carlton suffer a loss! Others rising up the leaderboard include Zach Merrett, Jordan Dawson, Errol Gulden, Max Gawn, Tom Green and Jeremy Cameron after strong performances in Round 7.

2024 AFL Brownlow Votes - Round 7 Match Analysis

Richmond 5.12.42 def by Melbourne 13.7.85

It was a lacklustre start to the ANZAC Day weekend with Melbourne eventually getting away from Richmond in the second half in an error-riddled contest. The Dees midfield were well down on their usual output, with Steven May (23 disposals, 12 marks) and Jake Lever (26 disposals, 11 marks) controlling things across half-back. Max Gawn (23 disposals, 10 marks, 26 hitouts, 1 goal) was typically dominant and he was the recipient of the ANZAC Medal, while Kysaiah Pickett (20 disposals, 2 goals) was lively up forward. Jacob Hopper (23 disposals) was going well until a hamstring injury late in the third quarter derailed him, while Liam Baker (23 disposals) gave his best as always.

Max Gawn - 3
Jake Lever - 2
Steven May - 1

Essendon 12.13.85 drew with Collingwood 12.13.85

This was a contrasting match to the night before, with the Pies and Dons putting on a classic on ANZAC Day as they played out a dramatic draw at the MCG. Brownlow votes in draws can often be tricky but Essendon skipper Zach Merrett won the ANZAC Day Medal for his 31 disposals, 9 tackles and 6 clearances. Nic Martin (30 disposals, 1 goal), Andrew McGrath (31 disposals, 8 marks), Darcy Parish (25 disposals, 1 goal) and Kyle Langford (4 goals, 14 disposals, 7 marks) were also good for the Dons. Nick Daicos (27 disposals, 1 goal) and Brody Mihocek (15 disposals, 7 marks, 3 goals) will be best placed for a vote for the Pies.

Zach Merrett - 3
Andrew McGrath - 2
Nic Martin - 0.5
Nick Daicos - 0.5

GWS Giants 17.11.113 def Brisbane 8.11.59

The Lions are losing touch with the pack after their worst loss of the season to the Giants. Tom Green (37 disposals, 7 clearances, 1 goal) was back to his best, with plenty of great support from Finn Callaghan (32 disposals), Josh Kelly (25 disposals, 10 marks, 1 goal), Lachie Whitfield (31 disposals) and Harry Perryman (23 disposals, 7 marks, 2 goals). Not many winners for the Lions, with Hugh McLuggage (26 disposals, 7 marks) probably their best.

Tom Green - 3
Finn Callaghan - 2
Josh Kelly - 1

Port Adelaide 11.16.82 def St Kilda 11.6.72

Port Adelaide wasted chances early, and then battled bravely late, as they were decimated with injuries, to defeat the Saints by 10 points. Connor Rozee (19 disposals, 1 goal) was flying towards best-on-ground before a hamstring scare in the third quarter sent him from the field. Zak Butters (27 disposals), Willem Drew (23 disposals, 7 marks, 7 tackles), Jase Burgoyne (27 disposals, 8 marks) and Ollie Wines (23 disposals, 9 tackles, 1 goal) all stepped up, while Charlie Dixon (4 goals, 10 disposals, 9 hitouts) hit the scoreboard. Jack Sinclair (28 disposals, 1 goal) was best for the Saints.

Willem Drew - 2
Jase Burgoyne - 2
Charlie Dixon - 1
Zak Butters - 1

North Melbourne 12.9.81 def by Adelaide 20.18.138

The Crows were never in danger as they romped away with an easy win against the Roos. Rory Laird (34 disposals, 6 tackles, 13 clearances, 1 goal) had his best game for the season, with good support from Jordan Dawson (27 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal) and Lachie Sholl (29 disposals, 1 goal) in the middle, while Izak Rankine (17 disposals, 6 clearances, 4 goals) and Taylor Walker (15 disposals, 9 marks, 2 goals) hit the scoreboard. Colby McKercher (32 disposals, 7 marks) showed his talents for the Roos while Luke Davies-Uniacke (29 disposals, 6 clearances, 1 goal) tried hard all day.

Rory Laird - 3
Jordan Dawson - 2
Izak Rankine - 1

Geelong 18.10.118 def Carlton 15.15.105

A cracking clash between two heavyweights at the G saw the Cats remain undefeated in 2024. Jeremy Cameron was the star with 5 goals from 17 disposals and 9 marks, while Max Holmes (26 disposals, 1 goal) and Gryan Miers (22 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 goals) were also important. Patrick Cripps was sensational once again for the Blues and looks a real Brownlow threat this season as he racked up 29 disposals, 6 tackles, 8 clearances and 2 goals. Blake Acres (28 disposals, 2 goals) and Harry McKay (19 disposals, 10 marks, 2 goals) were also excellent.

Jeremy Cameron - 3
Patrick Cripps - 2
Gryan Miers - 1

Fremantle 14.11.95 def Western Bulldogs 10.11.71

The handball-happy Dockers got the better of the Dogs in a tight battle. Nat Fyfe was back to his best with 37 disposals (including 25 handballs), 7 clearances and a goal to arguably be best afield. Caleb Serong (37 disposals, 17 clearances), Andrew Brayshaw (30 disposals, 7 clearances), James Aish (28 disposals, 12 marks) and Bailey Banfield (22 disposals, 6 marks, 3 goals) were also very good. Bailey Dale (30 disposals, 9 marks, 2 goals) and Tim English (23 disposals, 7 marks, 6 tackles, 28 hitouts, 6 clearances, 1 goal) tried hard for the Dogs to no avail.

Nat Fyfe - 3
Caleb Serong - 2
Bailey Banfield - 0.5
Bailey Dale - 0.5

Gold Coast 17.10.112 def West Coast 12.3.75

The Suns kicked clear in the second half to shake off the Eagles. Big man Jarrod Witts led the charge with 18 disposals, 46 hitouts, 8 tackles, 10 clearances and a goal in a dominant display. Noah Anderson (33 disposals, 12 clearances, 2 goals), Matt Rowell (22 disposals, 13 tackles, 9 clearances, 2 goals) and Touk Miller (27 disposals, 10 tackles, 6 clearances) were all beasts in the middle. Jake Waterman continued his stellar form for the Eagles with 4 goals from 15 disposals and 7 marks.

Jarrod Witts - 3
Noah Anderson - 2
Matt Rowell - 1

Hawthorn 5.12.42 def by Sydney 18.10.118

The Swans thumped the Hawks at the MCG to close the round in an interesting game for Brownlow voting. Brownlow leader Isaac Heeney should be in the votes once again but will his 21 disposals and 3 goals be enough for the three votes? Errol Gulden (25 disposals, 12 marks, 1 goal) and Chad Warner (22 disposals, 8 tackles, 6 clearances, 1 goal) were very good in the middle, while the half-back line of Oli Florent (28 disposals, 10 marks, 1 goal), Nick Blakey (30 disposals, 12 marks) and Jake Lloyd (26 disposals, 12 marks) ran rampant. Dylan Moore was best for Hawthorn with 25 disposals, 8 marks and a goal. This one could go a number of ways!

Isaac Heeney - 2
Chad Warner - 2
Errol Gulden - 1
Oli Florent - 1

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.
