NBL Round 17 Betting Tips
Perth Wildcats vs Sydney Kings
Saturday 8pm AEDT, RAC Arena
The Wildcats suffered a shock loss in their first game of Round 17, going down to the inspired JackJumpers at home by two points. That loss snapped a six-game win streak for the Wildcats, five of which were by double-figure margins. It’s been another very strong season for the most successful team in Australian basketball and they aren’t done yet.
The Kings have been absolutely rolling in recent weeks and are by far the best form team of the competition. The addition of import Jaylen Adams has helped catapult this team to the next level and he will certainly be in the mix for MVP. The Kings have won each of their last eight games and importantly, four of those have been on the road.
These teams have met twice this season and the Kings have been too hot to handle on both occasions. They’ve averaged 97 points scored in their two games and that’s resulted in a 15-point win and most recently a three-point win. I expect them to be the better team again on Saturday and am happy to be on them to cover the spread.
Adelaide 36ers vs S.E. Melbourne Phoenix
Sunday 1pm AEDT, Adelaide Entertainment Centre
The 36ers tough season continues as they enter this clash off an embarrassing 27-point defeat against Melbourne United last time out. That loss was their sixth from their last seven games, most of which have been by comfortable margins. The 36ers are now third last in the standings and only one win better off than the Breakers in last.
The Phoenix were finally able to snap their four-game losing streak in their first clash of Round 17, defeating the lowly Taipans by 12 points on the road. It was an extremely important win for the Phoenix and they’ll need to go on with it to stay in contention for a top four spot. They’re currently in fifth and one win behind the Hawks in fourth.
The season series between these teams is tied at one win apiece as we approach their third clash on Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix won their most recent meeting at the beginning of March and with how important this game is for them, I expect their intensity and focus to be too much for the 36ers once again. Get on them to cover the small spread here.

Melbourne United vs Illawarra Hawks
Sunday 3pm AEDT, John Cain Arena
Melbourne United flexed their muscles once again in their dominant win over the 36ers last time out. That was their seventh win from their last eight games, which has come after they had a mini two-game losing streak. The defending champions have been on top of the standings for the majority of the season to date and it doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.
The Hawks have shown glimpses of championship DNA over the course of the season, but the one knock on them is their lack of consistency. However, they enter this clash having won seven of their last nine games, including a dominant 26-point win over the JackJumpers last time out. As a result, the Hawks now occupy fourth spot in the standings and are one game clear of fifth.
This will be just the second meeting between these teams this season and it will be United looking to go ahead 2-0 in the series. They got the job done on the road against the Hawks back in January and now get a look at them on their home deck, which should only increase their chances of success. I have them proving to be too good in a tight contest on Sunday.
