It’s that time of the year again, when everyone gets to flaunt their knowledge of alternative music by posting their votes for the Triple J’s Hottest 100 on their social media accounts.
With Australia Day weekend fast approaching, the countdown for the Hottest 100 will take centre stage once again, and the race for No.1 seems to be a bit more open than it has been in years prior.
The countdown was controversially moved from Australia Day itself a few years ago and will this year be held on Saturday, the 25th of January. We take a look at some of the top betting markets for the countdown and give our tips below.

Outright Winner
The hit ‘Dance Monkey’ by breakout Australian performer Tones and I is a strong favourite to take out the Hottest 100 countdown this year at around odds of $1.83. Tones and I cleaned up at the Arias, winning three awards including best female artist and best breakthrough artist. That’s not always a good sign when it comes to the countdown, however, Triple J voters have traditionally boycotted what is considered ‘popular’ music and opted for the more alternative choices.
For this reason, I think there is come great value in another breakthrough star in Billie Eilish. While Eilish is one of the most popular artists in the world right now, she won’t have the critical acclaim yet as the Grammy awards aren’t until the 27th of January. Eilish is nominated for six Grammy awards including record and song of the year for her hit ‘Bad Guy’.

Love the look of Post Malone’s ‘Circles’ to finish in the top 10. Although the single was realeased all the way back in August and the album ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ shortly after in September, the song has stood the test of time and remains in the top 10 in the Australian Spotify charts to this day.
Post Malone was the most streamed artist in the world on Spotify in 2019, beating out the likes of Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran and has a big following in Australia. Circles will no doubt be his highest voted song and is great value for the top 10.

Grime is really yet to take hold in Australia like it has in the U.K, but one artist that broken through down under over the past few years is Stormzy. His 2017 album ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’ was a hit in Australia and the big single off that album ‘Big For Your Boots’ made the Hottest 100 that year.
Stormzy was back in 2019 with another hit album ‘Heavy Is The Head’ which featured the hit single ‘Vossi Bop’. The single debuted at No.1 in the U.K. Charts and peaked at No.34 in Australia. Should get a good contingent of the R&B and Grime votes in what has been a pretty light year for both genres.
