Randwick Racing Tips for Saturday, January 21st

January 20th 2017, 7:56pm, By: tim_tips

Sydney racing comes to us from Royal Randwick this weekend where we have a 9 race card to look through for our Randwick horse racing tips for Saturday, January 21st.

There is a storm expected to hit before the races on Saturday and the ATC expects the track to be in the Soft range.

We have comments and betting tips for every race below.

Randwick Racing Tips

Race 1

Could be a handy bunch of 2YO's here. Pretty keen to back the Hawkes runner EDEN ROC who is a three-quarter brother to Star Turn. They paid a hefty price for him and he's won two of his three trials leading into this. Should get a nice run on pace from barrier 2 and the $2.80 is a backable price. Much shorter elsewhere. ULTRAMARINE looks a big threat for the Snowdens having won his latest trial in good style, while the value could be SWEET BOUQUET at double figure odds who won her latest trial in a time which was nearly a second quicker than Ultramarine's trial on the same day. The inside barrier is an advantage and she looks good odds.

Tip: Eden Roc / Sweet Bouquet EW

Race 2

I've got GUARD OF HONOUR on top pretty clearly here. He was a stakes winner first up last prep before bumping into the likes of Spright at his next run. His fresh record is very good and his two trials have been sound. Bowman takes the ride and despite carrying more weight than the rest of the field, he still looks a class above. The main danger and the one I am very wary of is SPENDING TO WIN who I am tipping has a very bright future. His debut signalled as much and he's returned in fine fashion this campaign with a dominant win first up in BM72 grade as a maiden. With no weight he can definitely win here. I'd be surprised if anything outside of those two won.

Tip: Guard Of Honour

Race 3

Prepared to give HARLEM LADY another chance here with Hugh Bowman booked to ride. The apprentice that was on last start isn't much chop and the horse raced keenly before running home well from last to finish just over a length away from the winner. With Bowman on she should get her chance and the step up to 1600m is ideal. LYCIA was the horse that beat her last start and with the predicted rain she has every chance of winning again, especially with a 1kg swing in the weights on Harlem Lady. SHUTTER BUG drops 6kg from last start and won over track and distance two starts ago so expect her to run a big race.

Tip: Harlem Lady

Race 4

Looks a very open edition of the Highway Handicap but siding with NIC'S VENDETTA who has placed in three previous Highway Handicaps, including one behind Eckstein and Pumpkin Pie. Barrier 1 is perfect here and he should get a nice trail behind the leaders or he could probably even lead. Bowman rides and he won a trial by nearly 4 lengths leading into this so looks tuned up and ready to go. The value could be Canberra maiden winner SUPER STAR BOB from the Matthew Dale stable.

Tip: Nic's Vendetta

Race 5

Looks a very even race and I'd prefer to bet on a couple at decent odds rather than single out one at the shorter quote. MULTIFACETS won over this distance three starts ago and then ran 2nd at his next start. He failed last start back down to 1800m but has since trialled well and steps back up to 2000m here. He carries all the weight here but may be able to turn around his disappointment last start and at $8.50 it may be worth backing him once more. MORE THAN FABULOUS will relish the wet conditions and he's placed over track and distance previously. His form prior to last start is good enough to see him be competitive and the wet track makes him a winning chance at $7.50.

Tip: Multifacets / More Than Fabulous

Race 6

CAUTHEN'S POWER can definitely win this again but at $3.20 I don't think I'll be backing him. I was on ROCK MYLADY last start when he was terribly disappointing but he overraced in a small field and the bigger field should see him get a decent tempo and settle better today. His form from his first two starts this prep is good enough to see him go close here. First up he never saw daylight, and second up he arguably should have won when held up badly. He has three wins on soft ground and if you put a line through last start he looks well over the odds at $12. KING'S OFFICER is an appealing price with the wet ground, as is OLYMPIC ACADEMY.

Tip: Rock MyLady EW (Best Value)

Race 7 (Carrington Stakes)

Good race. GOLD SYMPHONY only won in a field of four last start but the horses he beat were no slugs and the keys for him here are the light weight and the soft track. He beat Imposing Lass by nearly 2 lengths last start and Imposing Lass has since come out and won a Group 3. He should be peaking at his third run back from a spell and with the good draw he should get every chance to repeat his last start win. ECUADOR won with 62kg first up and can win again with the plum draw, while OXFORD POET ticks plenty of boxes and should be right in the finish.

Tip: Gold Symphony

Race 8

A number of winning hopes here and there's nothing to suggest HOGMANAY, KING DARCI, LOUIE SEA KAY and IMANUI can't win but I like the chances of GOT UNDERS here at a great each way price. This horse probably should have won last start at Canterbury and importantly his third up run is always his best. He's placed five times from six starts when third up from a spell, and six times from ten starts at the distance. He loves the cut out of the ground and from the good gate he should box seat. The claim brings him down to 54kg and he ticks a lot of boxes here which is why the $13 on offer is appealing.

Tip: Got Unders EW

Race 9

DEPLOY looks every chance to bring up a hattrick of wins here after a dominant win in easier grade last start at Canterbury. He still gets in with 54kg after the claim here and the good gate should see him given every chance. Has no problems with the wet track and expect him to go very close again at $3.20. A couple at longer odds that appeal as value are ROARING TO WIN, NOBLE JOEY and KUDERO.

Tip: Deploy (Best Bet)
