Huge card with the Apollo Stakes headlining this weekend’s Randwick meeting. Big names returning all over the place including the stellar Fangirl and star sprinter Buenos Noches among others.

Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday February 17th
Race 4: Kia Ora Stud (Bm88) - 1300m (14:15 AEDT)
(8) Whinchat is going for 2 on the trot here after returning effortlessly in a romp at the Randwick-Kensington track. He’s the nice, progressive type of horse you like to see working through the grades as a lightly-raced 4yo and I expect another win here if he assumes control early.
(1) Cuban Royale is a professional at popping up in hard races where he’s a big price. Look out for him here.
(9) Tashi will need to be good to win if the pace is as slow as it looks on paper. The pattern will probably need to favour her as well but she’s not completely out of it.
(8) Whinchat win

Race 6: Robrick Lodge Triscay Stakes (Group 3) - 1200m (15:25 AEDT)
(2) Semana should be favourite here i think. She won up in Qld only 4 weeks ago and has fitness on her side. She’ll settle a lot closer than Olentia will who didn’t trial very well at all and bombed out of last preparation poorly.
(4) C’est Magique has to be a danger here from gate 1. How far back she gets could play a key role but with a nice run on the rails she won’t be out of it.
(5) Olentia does need a mention. She’s 3 from 3 fresh and although nothing points to a forward showing here, she could blow these away if the market is right.
(2) Semana win

Race 7: Petaluma Apollo Stakes (Group 2) - 1400m (16:00 AEDT)
(8) Fangirl should be mightily hard to beat here. She’s going well by her quiet trials leading up to her return. The 1400m kick off is a good sign and she loves racing fresh. Short price but deservedly so.
(10) Militarize was one of the surprise talents of the spring under Joao Moreira. He returns fresh here for Kerrin McEvoy and can run a race from a nice gate.
(7) Lindermann is a horse who could roll forward and assume control of this race. If so, he may be in the race a long way. It’s just a matter of whether he can see it out against the talent in this field.
