Racing Betting Tips - Saturday June 9th

Best Bet: Randwick Race 4 #2 Araaja
Next Best Bet: Belmont Race 6 #2 Profit Street
Best Value Bet: Flemington Race  #5 Falago

Flemington Betting Tips

RACE 2

Keen on one each way in the stayers’ contest here over 2500m. (5) Falago is ready to win after five starts back from a spell. He’s had a number of jumps trials in between his recent starts and we saw him improve sharply last time out when 3rd behind the race-favourite Lycurgus. He now returns to Flemington which is a big plus. He’s had four starts at this track and distance for a win and two 2nds. Drawn well, down in weight and Yendall on. Think he’s a great each way bet at $7 here.

TIP: (5) Falago EW

RACE 3

Little throw at the stumps here with (2) Lady Of Crebilly who has the ability to win this at $13. She ran 3rd in Listed grade at Sandown last preparation and showed she was a filly with plenty of ability. Her first up run this preparation was outstanding and although her run last start appeared poor, she didn’t get a whole lot in her favour. She got a long way back, got crunched at the 300m and that ended all her chances. She’s third up here and gets the blinkers applied for the first time in her career. The stable only bring them to Melbourne if they have a chance of winning. Drawn sticky in barrier 11, she’ll settle out the very back and hopefully be motoring home over the top late. $13 is a good each way bet in a tricky little race.

TIP: (2) Lady Of Crebilly EW

RACE 5

A race of unknowns as we see the return of rising star (1) Ability, but the big question is, is he really as good as he appeared last preparation with Robert ‘Milkshake’ Smerdon? The record of former Smerdon horses resuming for their new stables is terrible and Henry Dwyer has got the majority of them. In addition to that factor, the horse is first up at 1000m fresh off having knee surgery (if I remember correctly) with 60.5kg. On what he showed last campaign, he’d win this, but I have to take him on here. (7) Labuan Star is third up from a spell here. He won third up last preparation over 1000m at Mornington and I think they’ve got him ready to win today. The form from his first up run has turned out very strong and he’s got two wins from four starts when third up. Down in weight, the inside barrier is the only slight concern. At $7.50 I can entertain a 1x3 each way bet.

TIP: (7) Labuan Star EW

RACE 7

Another one for Weir here with (7) Ozi Choice at $4.50. He’s third up from a spell and ready to win. From 12 starts when first or second up from a spell, he’s had one win and one 2nd placing. From four starts when third up, he’s had two wins. Up to 1400m which is his pet distance, I think he’ll be tough to run down from the front here. (14) Urban Ruler is also third up and he’s won two from three when third up. Improved significantly last start, draws the inside gate here, down in the weights and looks a value chance at $11. Another value chance is (15) Knowable. He’s a horse that doesn’t win often (just two wins from 18 starts) but his run in the same race as Ozi Choice last start was terrific. He was 60/1 and motored home from last to run 3rd, beaten 1.2L. Terrible draw and not a confident jockey booking but can run a big race at $12.

TIP: (7) Ozi Choice / (15) Knowable EW

Randwick Betting Tips

RACE 1

The Hawkes-trained (8) God Of Thunder was the solid favourite on debut at Canterbury but was forced four-wide without cover before stopping very quickly in the straight. He’s since gone back to the trials and has been impressive. I think he’s a much better horse than what we saw on debut and given he had excuses, I’m willing to forgive him for that and back him again here at $4.60. Gets the blinkers on for the first time and draws well, too. Some interest in (10) Unguarded at $26, on debut and scratched from a midweek race in order to race here.

TIP: (8) God Of Thunder

RACE 3

A nice little sprint race for the three-year-old’s here. (1) She Knows is flying and (2) Revenire comes off two wins from as many starts this campaign, but I’m with the speedball (4) Brook Magic first up from a spell here. She’s had three starts when first up for two wins and a second, including a dominant win last preparation. With the 2kg claim, she carries 5kg less than the top two, so I’m thinking she might be able to pinch it from the front and run them off their legs. She’s proven on heavy ground, which is a box the other two are yet to tick, and with 60.5kg each they may struggle to run her down on a bog track.

TIP: (4) Brook Magic

RACE 4

Very keen on the chances of (2) Araaja here. She’s a French mare having her third start in Australia for Chris Waller today. Her first two runs have been outstanding. She arguably should have won last start when she found plenty of trouble in the straight. She stays at 2000m today, gets a massive jockey upgrade with Tye Angland taking over from Rory Hutchings and draws barrier 2 as opposed to 11 last start, so she’ll sit in the box seat rather than out the back. She’s proven she can handle wet ground and her only other start when third up from a spell was a win. Very hard to beat here and one of the best bets of the day at $2.70. The value may be her stablemate (3) Oklahoma Girl. If she’s ever going to go close to winning again, today is surely the day. She gets the heavy track she’s been crying out for. She’s had three starts on heavy ground for two wins and a 2nd, so she gets absolutely no excuses today with the light weight. Going to nibble the $9 on offer purely because she gets the right conditions here.

TIP: (2) Araaja / (3) Oklahoma Girl EW

RACE 5

Looks like another race in the keeping for Waller here with (4) I Am Serious on the quick back-up here. She was enormous last week when settling back in the field from the wide barrier with 59.5kg on her back. She really should have won and she certainly gets her chance to atone for that defeat here. She drops down to 56kg and doesn’t lose anything by having Tye Angland take over. She’s undefeated on wet ground and should be going very close here. (7) Monasterio might be the value play in the race at $9.50. He won first up and never got a clear crack at them last start. He would have been right in the finish on that occasion and he’s another one on the quick back-up here. He’s got a good third up record and an outstanding record at the distance. Has claims.

TIP: (4) I Am Serious / (7) Monasterio EW

Doomben Betting Tips

RACE 2

Looks a nice race for (3) Ulmann here at $4.60. He’s had three runs back from a spell and didn’t get a great deal of luck last start when held up from the 200m mark. Draws well here (hopefully the inside of the track isn’t quicksand), Damian Lane goes on and he won’t be bothered by the wet ground. His biggest danger looks to be (14) Sheiswhatsheis at $5. She’s got a fantastic record at the track and distance with six wins from 14 starts and she’s undefeated on heavy ground. Value could be (15) Exocet at $15 with the blinkers back on.

TIP: (3) Ulmann

Belmont Betting Tips

RACE 6

The Beaufine Stakes looks a very nice race for the talented (2) Profit Street first up from a spell. He’s had seven starts when first up, resulting in three wins and three 2nds. He’s had eight starts at this track for five wins and three placings and has three wins and three placings from six starts at the distance. It doesn’t matter if it’s wet or dry for him. Barrier 3, Pike on board, well weighted and very hard to beat.

TIP: (2) Profit Street
