Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, June 20th

June 20th 2019, 10:35am, By: Luke Krahe

Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing at Wyong and Warrnambool on Thursday, June 20th.

Luke Krahe is back with his preview, with five selections throughout the course of the day! Check them out below.

Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, June 20th

Wyong Race 1

Considering that (1) Discombe failed to run out the 1550m at Canterbury last time when in front, it seems a little odd to be so confident stepping up to the mile, but around here at Wyong is a different story. Tim Clark rides this track as good as anyone, he will have the Waterhouse/Bott gelding in front and be very hard to run down. This will most likely be the last run at his first prep, the fitness should be at peak levels now. His main danger looks to be the former Kiwi (2) Grand Eagle. He has been here for two runs, both at Newcastle where he placed and looks suited getting up to the mile. He settled closer last time but doubt the lead is there, I will take Clark over Berry tactically every day of the week. Our pick has placed at both runs on a soft track also which is a plus.

(1) Discombe

$3.60

Wyong Race 4

There are obviously some unknowns with he first-starters here, but if (1) Perigord has improved at all in his time in the paddock, he will hard to beat here. He showed tactical speed at three of his four starts and importantly he has had the chop and been gelded since we last saw him at the races. He trialed at Kembla last week and was most impressive. He missed the jump badly over the 800m and took a few strides to get going, was a clear last. He tracked wide and got to the middle of the track and I really liked the way he let down when asked. Although there wasn’t a lot of pressure applied up front, he moved alongside and stuck his nose in front late. Barring any above-average ones amongst the debutants, he should be very hard to beat.

(1) Perigord

$2.30

Wyong Race 7

(2) Quick Finance hadn’t been showing much this prep, he placed two starts back at Kembla but was beaten a long way. He was then back at the same track three weeks ago, over-raced behind the leader before running to the front early in the straight for a dominant win. This looks no harder and hopefully he got a lot of confidence from that win, he maps to be in a similar spot and looks a great each-wayy bet to nothing.

(2) Quick Finance E/W

$5.50

Warrnambool Race 5

I don’t often like to get involved in highweight races but (2) Counterfire ticks a lot of boxes. Firstly he gets the services of J Mott, he is a winner with the adjusted weights previously and handles the track conditions. He won last start in a highweight at Moe on the Heavy 10, he sat three-wide with cover before running on hard for a comfortable win. That was his second win in succession at this level, he does jump up the 71kg here but he has shown that carrying the weight is not an issue. A horse that he beat 12 lengths last time has since come out and won, he just needs to find a spot early. His main dangers look to be jumpers and a last start maiden winner, confidence is high in this.

(2) Counterfire

$3.40

Warrnambool Race 7

(3) Café Tortoni was good in a very hot form race on debut, he then went to Sale on the heavy track and absolutely bolted in after running on hard to get the maiden win out of the way. He sat back near last and came with one blistering run, not sure the inside gate is advantageous and the rail may be off by this stage of the day, but if the luck falls his way he will be too quick for them late. He clearly handles the conditions, as does last start maiden winner on debut (1) Kepi Blanc who looks the obvious and only danger. He was good getting through the heavy ground also, take them two-out in the Quad.

(3) Cafe Tortoni

$2.00
