Thursday's racing tips come to you from Luke Krahe this week as we take a look at some of the best value races at both the Newcastle and Benalla race meets!
Newcastle Racing Tips
Race 5
There looks to be two main chances over this flying 900m dash, She’s My Girl and Magnolia Power. They are both fresh into this and both come through the same trial day at Gosford a few weeks back. Magnolia Power jumped well, sat one off the fence and was never pressured in running second in her trial, She’s My Girl also jumped well, held the rail in front, was pressured a little early in the straight but accelerated well under a grip and was eased down late. What is of importance here is the times, although neither were pushed out in the straight, She’s My Girl’s heat win was almost a full second quicker than the other, with not as much between them over the last 600m but clearly quicker. Although the Brett Partelle runner She’s My Girl is drawn outside the Kris Lees trained filly Magnolia Power, she should be able to cross and even if she doesn’t land on the bunny, I think she will be more forward and can sit outside her main danger.
Race 7
A BM64 for the boys to finish the card at Newcastle, the betting will probably tell us it is an open affair where it should be each-way odds the field at some stage of betting. Flying Pierro and Kulnura are going to be near the top of the market, both are first-up here today and that’s a tough ask straight to the 1400m so I am willing to risk them both. Disgraceful doesn’t win out of turn, and she usually needs everything to go right but she should get some favours here today. She has been getting back and running on well on smaller tracks and should appreciate the spacious Broadmeadow circuit, back in trip from a Muswellbrook Cup 3 weeks ago that has produced a subsequent winner since and he wasn’t beaten far. He gets a good claim, should be able to settle mid-field and with fitness on his side, should be an each-way bet to nothing.
Benalla Racing Tips
Race 4
Bam’s on Fire is a talented 3YO Filly that is still a maiden after 6 career starts, placing in 4 of them, but this by far the easiest race she has contested. She had her first four starts in WA against the best juveniles in the state, came over to Maher/Eustace stable, trialed like a superstar but was beaten at a very short quote and sent to the paddock. She was given a very easy time of it at a recent Avoca jump-out where she never got out of first gear it seemed all over the back of the winner, her main opposition here looks to be the recently gelded Thunderbolt Two, who has a stack of speed. He should come across and find the top, the good run in here at Benalla should see the field lengthen into the straight and she will just run past him to get her first win. Linda Meech has a stack of good rides on the card, no doubt she will be well in the red in the Jockey’s challenge but keep your eye out, they may put up crazy overs! She is entitled to be $1.10. So, if getting on the shorts or multi’s are your go, add her in.
Race 8
Vladivostock has good tactical speed and should be able to kick through and lead from the inside gate. He steps up to the 1400m today, he looked to have every chance at Cranbourne last time but he was strong through the line. They went hard early in that and the swoopers ran first and second, he was left a little flat-footed following the leader but looks better suited here if he finds the front and can quicken on his terms. He will be very hard to run down if he gets a soft lead and maybe back hi9m again in the run if that happens.
