Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, February 16th

February 16th 2020, 2:24pm, By: Luke Krahe

Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Sunday, February 16th.

With seven meetings across Australia today, there's plenty of winners to be found. Luke Krahe has got his best bets for Moruya, Werribee and the Sunshine Coast below.

Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, February 16th

Moruya Race 7 - (Market)

The feature of the day at the re-located meeting is the Country Champs Qualifier, a set weights race over 1400m. (3) Assaul’n’bathory has been very consistent through his 15-start career and handles the wet tracks well. He won a Highway on a heavy track before going for a break, resumed and led all the way from a wide gate in another Highway at Randwick. Last time he led and weakened but willing to forgive that as just a “second-up” failure. he has the wide gate but good speed and should be carving across, swims in the going and the track may be favouring those on pace by this stage of the day. If he gets a soft lead and gets to the rails without pressure, go again in the run.

(3) Assault'n'bathory

$8.50

Werribee Race 3 - (Market)

(9) Cliffsinger has placed at both career starts, she sat up outside the speed on debut at Geelong and was left a little flat-footed but stuck on well for third. She then was again at Geelong at start two and stepped up to the 1400m where she was a well supported favourite in the red. She went quickly early and led, was headed early in the straight but stuck on well for second. Both runs she just seemed to switch off when challenged, with the blinkers on she can cross and lead for a long way.

(9) Cliffsinger

$2.25

Werribee Race 4 - (Market)

(4) Yatta Izu has been up for a while but has been very good at her last three runs. Here at Werribee up in grade against the girls three back she settled second, joined in at the furlong and only got rolled late. She was again here two starts ago, worked very hard early three-wide and stuck on well off a torrid run. Last time at Moe back in this grade she led from a middle gate, stuck on well but was run down very late by an impressive winner.  A horse that was beaten 5 lengths that day has since come out and won. She has the wide draw to overcome but hopefully they are positive with her coming back in trip and she can cross and control the tempo.

(4) Yatta Izu

$3.90

Sunshine Coast Race 1 - (Market)

(10) Okeechobee is having her third start, she debuted back in October of 2018 and placed at Doomben when well in the market. Sent straight to the paddock, she was 42 weeks between runs before winning her maiden here at the Sunny Coast by a narrow margin but was very strong throug the line. Again sent straight to the paddock, she has had 27 weeks since that maiden run. She trialed on the heavy track here back in January, she wasn’t pushed out and although comfortably beaten, there was a lot to like about the last furlong. A replay of that video can be found here. Maloney and Vandyke should be on a high off Alligator Blood’s brilliant win in Melbourne yesterday!

(10) Okeechobee

$2.40
