Horse Racing Tips: Monday, June 1st
Pakenham Race 1 - (Market)
(8) Impetus is a first starter for the Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig yard, she was seen twice at the jump-outs last year but was sent to the paddock without a race. She has had two jump-out in readiness for this debut, both at Flemington on the inner synthetic track. Her first hit-out was better than her second but I expect she will have plenty of improvement in her off that run. She looked to handle the surface well, the confidence will grow if there are any positive moves in the marketplace after 9am. She doesn’t look a star at this stage, but this is a weak race.
Pakenham Race 3 - (Market)
It is always a tough ask to win straight to the 7 furlongs first-up, (7) Knife’s Edge gets the right set-up and a weak maiden to do it here today. He was tackling much harder races in town when last in work, both of his fresh runs have resulted in runner-up finishes. He has had two jump-outs in preparation for this, the latest was a win at Cranbourne. He jumped away with them but was eased back to last and wide. He hung in around the turn and was the deepest into the straight, once he was asked the question, he really let down well and was strong through the line to score. Dubbo Race 1 - (Market)
(5) Aneesa is second-up today, she is a former Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig trained filly that has had one start since coming north to the John Ramsay stable at Scone. Although a little easy in the betting, she was solid late to start second favourite @ $3.80. It was her first go on a soft track and after getting a soft run behind the speed on the rails, got clear in the straight and hit the line well in a race where it was favourable to be up on the speed. She had shown good enough tactical speed for the old yard, I expect that with that run under her belt form the wide draw, she will go forward and try to control the speed from outside the leader. She looks very hard to beat.
Dubbo Race 2 - (Market)
With (1) Pure Fuego going around yesterday (and winning for us), (13) Harwok’n’zoff looks very hard to beat. Although we will be copping some deductions form the early each-way quote, he draws in close and should be able to settle closer than he did last start. He was resuming off a long break here at his home track, got back in the run and ran on well into third in a race where it was beneficial to be a lot closer to the speed than he was. He gets out in trip which looks suitable and if he can repeat that closing speed, should be hitting the front inside the furlong and too strong.
