Horse Racing Tips: Monday, July 22nd
Goulburn Race 1 (Market)
(5) Satin Rain looked suited getting out to the mile for the first time last start at Warwick Farm. She had been improving from run-to run, on the heavy track last time she was up on the speed but was no match for the winner in what was a harder race than this. She has the inside draw but as long as she jumps away with them, she should have the tactical speed to lead or take the sit behind the leader. She clearly handles the wet tracks, she comes into this racing much inferior opposition than what she has been. (2) Lunar Rain was ok on debut, she placed at Nowra on the heavy track but was beaten a long way in a race that favoured those back in the pack like she was. Happy to take her on.
Goulburn Race 3 (Market)
I have written previously about how I like these Class Ones and Maidens over 2000m or further, you can really pen the majority of the maidens with some confidence. (10) Hard Expectations is one of the maidens that strikes a winnable race and should be double figure odds, he hasn’t shown a lot in his 6-start career but the key here is getting out past the 2000m for the first time. He did get to 1800m last campaign but was only fair after not having much luck, the longer journey looks to suit him. Last start at Hawkesbury on the Soft 7, he did over-race and was inconvenienced when making a move, kept battling away and arguably should have finished closer. This is effectively an easier field, fully fit fourth-up and the small field suits. Each-Way all day.

Scone Race 2 (Market)
(4) Athena’s Voice was good at Dubbo two starts back where she had to chase from mid-field but couldn’t run down the leader in a race similar to this. She then went north to Grafton where she was slowly away, was running on well before being held-up at the 200m mark. She draws well and should be better than mid-field here if she gets away with them, back from a Class 6 to a 58 here at her home track, she looks hard to beat. It looks a very open race on paper and I think she will be a drifter until very late in the betting. (8) Eureka Sky may be worth a small saver also, she doesn’t win out of turn but she will go forward in this field and may be able to get a soft lead.
Ballarat Synthetic Race 4 (Market)
(1) Mister Hay Zee was a real eye-catcher here on the synthetic last time, and although the race was set-up for the back-markers, he had no luck when held-up approaching and early in the straight, before flashing late to get up for second. He was well beaten but should have finished a lot closer, we know that horses who have handled the track previously are a big tick going forward on the synthetic. He has placed at three of five in his career, although he will be giving them a start there looks to be enough speed that those back in the field will get their chance. He was good at his only other second-up run at prep number one, wide without cover before runinng on well and was brave in defeat. If they go crazy, get on him again in the run.
