Zac Purton looks set for a huge night in the saddle. He’s got a terrific book of rides and for the first time in a long time, he’s drawn good barriers for most of them and the favourites he’s on look to deserve their place in the market. He’s got some very good rides early on but Happy Dragon in Race 5 looks to be one of his better chances of the night. According to Punters.com.au, Purton’s had 15 rides for John Moore this season, resulting in 7 winners and a ROI of 110%. This horse won over 1650m here by 3L two starts ago and then ran 4th last start, beaten 2L after drawing barrier 12. He still ran the fastest final sectional of the race. Purton takes over tonight and draws favourably in barrier 5. Looks very hard to beat at $2.30.
Rise High is another one for Purton that should be giving this a very good shake. He’s third up for the season tonight but has had 11 weeks off since his last run in a strong form race. He’s trialled very nicely on two occasions leading into this and should he bring his best form, he’d probably win this. It’s his first look at Happy Valley but Casper Fownes is renowned as being a trainer whose horses go better at the Valley so that’s probably a plus. Drawn well and goes close (as he should as $2.50 favourite).
