Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Gosford and Mornington on Wednesday, January 30th.
We’ve selected our three best bets across both meetings below!
Short enough at even money but this three-year-old gelding should have won last time out in his second career start. He was very green in the straight and got himself into a bit of trouble, resulting in him being steadied and inconvenienced at the 100m mark. Once he balanced up again and got clear running he really hit the line strongly. Protested against the winner unsuccessfully but he put the writing on the wall with that run and finds a very winnable maiden today. McEvoy sticks with him and he looks well and truly the one to beat.
There has to be huge questions over the Weir runners going around today after he had his stables raided and was arrested this morning. His runner here is the second-favourite Invincible Amici. I’m keen to be with Algadon Miss, who returned to racing with a strong win at Cranbourne just under two weeks ago. She went forward and sat outside the leader on that occasion before kicking strongly in the straight to hold a margin to the line. She should go forward again today which is always a positive at Mornington, which generally plays towards those up on speed. She might even find herself in the lead and if she does indeed find the rail, she could be very hard to run down.
Looks a fairly even race so I’m taking a punt on one at each way odds in the form of Argyle Belle here. This mare’s won two from two at this track and distance, including a 2L victory two starts ago in BM58 company. The rest of her form is pretty ordinary but she seems to grow a leg when she steps out at Mornington. She should sit in the box seat from barrier 1 with Steph Thornton aboard and she’s certainly not the worst bet at $7.00.
