Best Bet: Race 6 Ancient History
Not a confident best bet today but Ancient History looks well placed here. First up he ran well without luck at Cranbourne in similar grade, before striking a heavy track last time out at Sandown. His record suggests he takes plenty of improvement from his second up run to his third up run, so third up today with Damian Lane on in a winnable race, he looks well placed. Happy to take $4.40 with queries about the favourite Andrea Mantegna, who drops back from 2200m to 1500m first up from a 49-day break.
Best Value Bets: Race 4 Matthias EW / Race 5 Assertive Star EW
This 7YO gelding has struck form with three top-two finishes in his last three outings. He was a winner two starts back over 2500m, but ran very well to grab 2nd last start when dropped back to 1800m fresh off a 45-day break. Back up to 2200m should see him competitive with the claim for Tahlia Hope. $13 looks a nice eachway play in an even race. Assertive Star in R5 is a complete blowout that may be worth a dollar each way. The horse finished last first up, but has never placed in six first up runs. Importantly, he’s won two of his four second up runs and has won his only start at the track and distance. $61 available.

Progressive horse that looks to have a bit of talent. Won very well on debut but went down as the odds-on favourite under a big weight last start. Steps up in class today but drops significantly in weight as a result. Takes on a competitive field but he draws well and looks up to it.
Best Value Bet: Race 8 New Elegance / Roundabout
Very, very short priced favourite here with Ping Hai Star for the Size/Moreira combination, but at $1.45 you can leave me out. Thought New Elegance was over the odds at his second start for Frankie Lor. He was fair first up but he’s undefeated second up back in Australia, while the run of Roundabout last time out suggested to me he was ready to win.
