Just four rounds remain in the 2023 AFL home and away season, which means all matches are now of the utmost importance. Round 21 promises to be another cracking round of footy, with action getting underway on Friday night with the Bulldogs taking on the Tigers at Marvel Stadium. As usual, there will be a massive five-game slate for Super Saturday in Round 21, headlined by the Cats vs Power matchup at GMHBA Stadium. Finally, the round will conclude on Sunday with a three-game slate, with the Saints vs Blues clash being the drawcard.

2023 AFL Round 21 Expert Tips
Friday August 4th
Friday night’s match in Round 21 is the first of many fixtures with huge finals implications. The Bulldogs will take on the Tigers at Marvel Stadium in what’s certainly a match of the round contender. The loser of this clash will almost certainly find themselves in the bottom half of the ladder at the round’s conclusion!
Saturday August 5th
The Eagles snapped their mammoth losing streak with a win over a fellow struggling club in the Kangaroos last weekend, but will likely get back onto the losers list in Round 21. The Bombers are in must-win mode and will surely secure all four points in this Saturday afternoon matchup.
The Crows secured another Showdown win last weekend to make it 2/2 against the Power in 2023; however, they’re still on the outside of the top eight looking in. This weekend they take on the Suns in what’s an elimination final for both outfits. Who keeps their finals hopes alive with a win?
The Hawks were jumped early by the Saints in Round 20 and cannot succumb to the same fate against the league-leading Magpies if they’re any chance of an upset. Meanwhile, the Magpies are coming off a rare loss against the Blues and will be keen to quickly make amends.
Geelong’s finals chances suffered a huge blow last weekend when they lost at home to Fremantle in a result that absolutely no one saw coming. Rubbing salt into their wounds, they’ve also lost Tom Hawkins and Mark Blicavs to injury. This makes for an intriguing and crucial fixture against the Power on Saturday night.
Has there ever been higher stakes in the Battle of the Bridge? It’s do or die for the Swans this weekend when they take on their crosstown rivals in this Giants. And to make things even tougher for the Swans, the Giants enter this edition of the Sydney Derby on a league-high seven-match win streak.
Sunday August 6th
North Melbourne embarrassed themselves last weekend when they failed to defeat a historically bad West Coast team. That type of form doesn’t stack up well for Round 21’s matchup with the in-form Demons. However, maybe Clarko can weave some magic in his first game back in charge?
The Saints managed to fight off a Hawks comeback in Round 20 to secure their 11th win of the season. Somehow, someway they currently occupy 5th spot on the ladder. Will they tick over the win column again this weekend when they take on the Blues, or will the Baggers continue their assault on the top eight?
The Dockers recorded arguably the biggest upset of the season when defeating the Cats last weekend, and now play hosts to a Lions outfit that has been garbage on the road this season. This could be an interesting and entertaining fixture to finish another round in the AFL.
