Sydney took control of the series on Sunday with a commanding 106 to 93 victory in front of a record crowd at Qudos Bank Arena. The Kings dominated the final quarter, turning a tight contest into a double digit win behind an incredible performance from Kendric Davis.
Davis was virtually unstoppable, dropping 34 points and dishing out 15 assists without a single turnover to dictate the tempo down the stretch. On the other end of the floor, Matthew Dellavedova put on a defensive clinic against Bryce Cotton. The Adelaide superstar was held to just 15 points on 5 for 15 shooting. The physical nature of the defence drew heavy criticism from 36ers head coach Mike Wells post game, who was furious that Dellavedova finished the match with zero personal fouls.
Adelaide now returns to their home floor facing elimination. To force a deciding Game 5, they need Cotton to break free from the Kings defensive clamps and find his scoring rhythm early. John Jenkins was a bright spot in Game 3 with 22 points, but the 36ers need more interior production from Zylan Cheatham and Isaac Humphries to counter the depth of the Sydney frontcourt. The Adelaide crowd will be hostile, and the referees might adjust their whistle after the public complaints from Wells, which could help Cotton get to the free throw line.
However, Sydney looks to have figured out the formula. Their ability to wear down Adelaide with multiple defensive bodies and rely on Davis to create in the clutch makes them incredibly tough to beat. Xavier Cooks and Tim Soares are also consistently winning the rebounding battle.
