Rabbitohs vs Roosters Prediction & Tips: 2026 NRL Round 27

Emotions and skill were high

In a special day for the Rabbitohs, they jumped out of the blocks with a dominant first half performance, jumping to a 28-6 HT lead. As has been the case all season though, they allowed the Titans back into the match but overcame this towards the end to prevail 42-22 on the road. With an equal share of possession, they had a superior completion rate (85%) and averaged 9.6m per carry. This also led to 8 line breaks. Heading into the Finals with momentum, they still have areas which they can improve upon; they missed 48 total tackles in that match.

Trending downward

A week after their upset loss to the Tigers, the Roosters suffered another defeat, this time at home to the Dolphins 26-12. The loss was made worse with the injury suffered by Walker. The Roosters are in for a tough few weeks if they are to resemble their dominance from different points of the season. Statistically, they were strong; completing at 81% they ran for 9.5m per carry, had 649 PCM’s, and had 7 line breaks. This couldn’t be converted into points though, a worrying sign on the eve of the Finals.

Stats that matter

- The Roosters won the Round 2 game between these two sides 26-18, strengthening their 64% strike rate here, well ahead of the Rabbitohs 33%. The Roosters have also won 6 of the past 7 games against their rivals.

- Despite 3 of the past 5 games decided by 8 points or less, two blowout wins to the Roosters has the average margin of victory at 18.8 points. The average total points scored is 47.6.

- The Rabbitohs have the superior attack this season, averaging 28ppg compared to the Roosters 26ppg. The Roosters are stronger defensively, allowing just 19ppg, well ahead of the Rabbitohs 24ppg.

Showing their hand

The Roosters’ decision to rest a host of key players for this game has swung the momentum towards the Rabbitohs. While they too have left a player out to allow rest prior to the Finals, it is nothing compared to the likes of Tedesco, Toia, DCE, and Robson who are absent for the visitors. The Rabbitohs are opting to build momentum ahead of the game and this offers them the perfect platform. A strong start from the Roosters is expected; incoming players will want to make a statement that they are capable in the top grade. That will only remain for so long.

The Rabbitohs are a strong team with a host of players who can score points. Providing they do not have their usual ‘switching off’ period in this game, they should win comfortably. Their forwards are too strong and will create the perfect platform for the likes of Walker, Mitchell, and Johnston to scheme in the best way possible. Unfortunately, you need to go looking for value. Rather than take on the ridiculous line offered, play it safe and increase your stake in the Rabbitohs to win by more than 2 converted tries.

Leg 1 = Total points under 55.5 – see above for justification.

Leg 2 = Johnston 2+ tries – he has fond memories of scoring at this ground and will be out to replicate his effort from earlier in the season. In his past 2 games at this ground, Johnston has scored 5 tries.

Leg 3 = Walker to score – he came close last week but stick with him. Walker is in great form currently and this has improved his confidence (and incidence) of taking the ball to the line, as well as looming up regularly in support.

Scooby is our NRL guru with over ten years experience writing about rugby league with Before You Bet and previously at The Profits. His background is in playing and coaching but he's enjoyed the switch to share his knowledge through his articles, as well as sharing his thoughts on Twitter.

Scooby's strength is assessing the overall team - what they offer across the field in a match and how the ethos of a club contributes to their success. Momentum also has a major impact on sports, and Scooby likes to explore this, while underpinning his judgement against a solid basis of statistical analysis. When combined with the aforementioned points, it combines for a holistic approach towards betting on rugby league.

Other sports he enjoys include Cricket, Horse Racing and NFL. There is a reason why Scooby ‘clicked’ with BYB from Day 1 - he loves his sport as much as we do.
