Caulfield hosts group racing on Saturday with Memsie Stakes Day on what is traditionally the first day of the 2026 Spring Carnival.
Despite being the last weekend of winter, there are four Group races on the day with the feature being the Memsie Stakes which will be run over 1400m. Jimmystar is the current favourite in what is a wide open affair, with the race being run at 4:10pm (AEST). The Group 3 Heatherlie Stakes which is run over 1700m has a couple of Melbourne Cup fancies resuming but Yellow Jersey is the short $2.30 favourite at present. The McNeil Stakes is a wide open affair with American Eagle a $4.40 favourite. At the time of previewing the track is rated a Heavy 8 but I think an upgrade may occur before the day so I am studying for a Soft 6 or 7 surface.

Race 2: Sportsbet Fixed Odds Exotics Handicap 1800m - 12:35pm (AEST)
(2) Makdane I tipped on this site last week and he finished 4th. That run was at Sandown Hillside and for most parts, horses running on down the outside basically had no chance. Makdane was one of those horses who got too far back and rallied late and was only beaten 2.1L. His favourite surface is Soft but is capable on Heavy ground too so we have that covered. He is fitter and should settle a little closer with Damien Lane on.
(11) Politely Dun is over the odds at $13 and he will be one of the best finishers. Barrier 15 is the concern but if they go too hard in front, he can win.
(8) Federer might be better on Dry ground in a few weeks but is another who will be storming home late.

Race 6: The Quayclean Health 1100m Group 3 1100m - 2:55pm (AEST)
(3) Oliveanotherday is a beauty having won 5 from 7 starts to date for the Tom Dabernig stable. He gets barrier 1 here and pace in the race. I think Harry Coffey doesn’t go for the lead but settles leaders back. The lightly raced four-year-old has won both jumpouts leading into this first up assignment and the wet track is a bonus. He is 1 from 1 at Caulfield.
(9) Bridal Waltz has drawn well in 3 and may sit outside of the leader or 4th outside of Oliveanotherday. She is resuming here and has won at the track. Is a proven Group horse and Ben Melham has won 3 times on top from 4 starts.
(1) War Machine will enjoy the fast pace and should run on well into 3rd or 4th but he does prefer Dry tracks. Has won at Caulfield though and has won harder races than this.

Race 8: Stow Storage Memsie Stakes GROUP 1 1400m - 4:10pm (AEST)
(2) Jimmystar is resuming and gets the nod mainly because of his Caulfield record. He has won here on 5 occasions from 7 starts and 3 of those wins were over the 1400m. He is resuming and his first up record is very good too, having won five times. The Maher stable combines with Blake Shinn and from barrier 8 he is likely to position him up midfield. He has trialled up well enough at Warwick Farm and some of his rivals need further ground in the weeks ahead.
(10) Beiwacht is the likely leader but may need a track upgrade to a Soft 5 which is unlikely. He is undefeated over the 1100m but I think he runs better the longer he goes into a preparation. Waller and Nash Rawiller combine though and that has to be respected.
(9) Autumn Boy is lightly raced and has a good record on Soft tracks. He has won at this track before and gets JMAC.
