Eagle Farm Racecourse was established in 1865 and has hosted some of the best thoroughbred racing in Australia, with the Stradbroke Handicap the pinnacle race each year.
Victorian and Federation heritage buildings are present at Eagle Farm with the venue offering world-class facilities for racegoers. Eagle Farm is approximately a 20-minute car ride from the Brisbane CBD.

The Stradbroke Handicap is the biggest race in Queensland each year and was first run back in 1890. It was originally run over six furlongs (1200m) before increasing to seven furlongs (1400m) in 1953.
Held in June during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the Stradbroke Handicap is worth $1.5 million. There are two other Group 1 events held on Stradbroke Handicap Day with the JJ Atkins Plate (1600m) for two-year-olds and the Queensland Derby (2200m) for three-year-olds. The Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2200m) is also held on the same day.
Three-year-old fillies battle it out in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) a fortnight before Stradbroke Handicap Day. On the same program is the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) which has had almost a dozen name changes since 1964. Most recently it was known as the BTC Cup, when the likes of Apache Cat and Black Caviar won the race in 2008 and 2011 respectively.
The Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) concludes the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with fillies and mares competing a fortnight after Stradbroke Handicap Day.
Track surface issues forced Eagle Farm Racecourse to be closed for an extended period with racing having to be held at Doomben. Santa Ana Lane won the 2018 Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben with the race being run over 1350m. It is scheduled to be run at Eagle Farm again in 2019.
