2015 NFL: Week 5 Preview & Betting Tips

October 8th 2015, 2:18pm, By: admin

It's only early in the year, but the 2015 NFL season is already getting very interesting! NFL Week 4 threw up some exciting games and luckily we managed to come away 3 and 1 in the betting. Hopefully our NFL betting tips this week fare even better as we offer up our NFL Week 5 Preview & Betting Tips.

_ _ _

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans – Friday at 11:25am AEST

This game has more unknowns than an M. Night Shyamalan movie. The biggest question is will Andrew Luck play? Luck has a partial dislocation of his throwing shoulder and has been limited in practice all week. Backup quarterback Matt Hasselback is also not 100% and listed as questionable. Another big concern for the Colts is injuries to Vontae Davis and Henry Anderson. Both are big outs on the Colts defense.

On Tuesday Luck said he was preparing as if he was going to start. However on Wednesday Colts re-signed 3rd string quarterback Josh Johnson. This is a little concerning to me considering they had just let him go Monday morning.

The sportsbooks have a market on this game and it’s basically a coin flip. I’m not sure how they have a market without knowing if Luck will start or not but I believe the value is with the Colts. It is probably a coin flip without Luck starting so we get the extra value if he does indeed start.

Since 2007 Colts are 8-0 straight up and 7-1 ATS on the road in Thursday night football games.
Tip: Indianapolis Colts to win - $2.16 at CrownBet

Editor's note: Proceed with caution as Johnny Houston withdrew this tip early on Monday morning as Andrew Luck was pulled out and it was announced the Colts would be going with Matt Hasselback - a 40-year old who was in hospital earlier this week.

New England Patriots @ Dallas Cowboys – Monday at 7:25am AEST

I can’t believe this line! Coming off the bye week Patriots are always strong. The Dallas cowboys have their two biggest stars out and a large number of players were very limited in practice. So why is the line only -8.0 (Patriots)?

I am not going to overthink this game.

Tom Brady has been lights out with 96 completions for 1112 yards and 9 TD’s in just 3 games. Both Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount are big threats on the ground and Rob Gronkowski is almost impossible to defend in the air. The Patriots rank 1st in points per game, passing yards and total yards and they have a great defense. Patriots win this game by two touchdowns at least.
Tip: New England Patriots at the line (-8.0) - $1.94 at CrownBet

San Francisco 49ers at New York Giants – Monday at 11:30am AEST

The 49ers had a decent effort against the Packers last week and that’s probably the reason this line is sitting at -7.0 instead of -10.0. There’s a good chance the Packers just wanted to get a win and go home. Now the 49ers have to travel across the country to play a Giants team that’s won two in a row and playing with a bit of confidence.

The NFC East is now wide open with the Dallas situation and the Giants know it. Eli Manning has been better than I anticipated and their offense is well balanced. The Giants are not turning the ball over like last season and I expect them to win easy against the 49ers.

The 49ers are ranked 32nd in the league averaging 12 points per game. Colin Kaepernick has thrown 5 interceptions and has been sacked 14 times. Look for this trend to continue in New York.
Tip: New York Giants at the line (-6.5) - $1.89 at Sportsbet

Pittsburgh Steelers at San Diego Chargers – Tuesday at 11:30am AEST

Both teams are currently sitting at 2-2 and a win here would mean a lot for either. The line (-3.0 Chargers) might come as a surprise as the Steelers are without Big Ben and the Chargers have home field advantage. However I believe the line is spot on as the Steelers always play well against San Diego (10-4 ATS) and Michael Vick didn’t look as bad as I thought he would against the Ravens.

Pittsburgh’s defense should give Phillip Rivers plenty to worry about and I think the Steelers will control the clock with their run game. Both DeAngelo Williams and Le’Veon Bell are killing it on the ground for Pittsburgh and I can’t see the Chargers slowing them down.
Tip: Pittsburgh Steelers at the line (+3.0) - $2.02 at Sportsbet
