The NBA’s highly anticipated Christmas Day slate will play out on Boxing Day in Australia and as usual, there are some very juicy matchups on the schedule. There are five games in total but only a couple of those are at a reasonable time for Australians, particularly those dealing with those Christmas hangovers! We bring you our best bets for the day below.

Philadelphia 76ers at Miami Heat

Two of the top five teams in the East will have a crack at each other on Boxing Day with the Philadelphia 76ers travelling to take on the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, this heavyweight showdown has taken a bit of a hit with superstar 76er Joel Embiid unable to take part. Still the 76ers will be quietly confident about their chances considering their 8-4 record on the road this season which is the best in the Conference. Meanwhile, the Heat have been building as the season has progressed and head into this clash having won five of their last seven games. These teams are yet to face each other this season and although the 76ers have been handy on the road to date, they haven’t had to do it with Embiid. So, with that said, I’m more than happy to back the Heat in to get the job done on this occasion.

Dallas Mavericks at Phoenix Suns

Last up on Boxing Day is a matchup between two teams playing heavily undermanned, as the Dallas Mavericks travel to Arizona to take on the Phoenix Suns. The Mavericks continue to be without injury-prone superstar Kyrie Irving but still managed to win last start against the Spurs to break a three-game losing run. Elsewhere, the Suns have had some troubles of their own and will be without Bradley Beal once again as they aim to snap a two-game skid. In fairness, neither of these clubs would be proud of their performances in recent outings, although the Mavericks have certainly had the wood over them in big games. I expect that trend to continue and for the Mavs to pull off another upset win in Phoenix.
