Morphettville Racing Tips: Saturday April 22nd

April 21st 2023, 5:51pm, By: Daniel Nuttall

Morphettville Racing Tips

The carnival in South Australia is heating up with Morphettville and its inner Parks track sharing the load for a 10-race card. There are four black type races to be run and won, with two of those (races 8 and 9) to be run on the main track. I’ll give a best bet, a suggested Quaddie and cover off the black type races, spreading around 20 units on the day.

Morphettville Racing Tips – Saturday, April 22nd 2023

Race 1 – Furphy Handicap (1550m)

(4) Likely Suspect (BEST BET) – Hoping to strike early with this Lindsay Smith-trained gelding who appears to have a fair bit of upside. He pushed forward at Warrnambool last start and gave a good account with the big weight of 62kg. Hoping similar tactics can be applied because you’d rather be on the pace on the Parks track. This is a suitable race for what is his first crack in town, and I think he has better races in store.

Likely Suspect - Win

$4.20 (8 Units)

Race 6 – Listed H C Nitschke Stakes (1400m)

(6) Royal Merchant – Honest filly who is bursting to win another race this prep after a string of top four finishes, which included a close-up fourth behind Jacquinot in the Manfred Stakes in late January. Drawn to get every chance and the stable just get so much out of their horses when fit.

(7) Prairie Flower – Star Turn filly who earned a confidence boosting win at Morphettville last weekend. Thinking she can go on with it now. She competed in a listed race here two back and wasn’t far away so I don’t think she’s out of place in a race like this.

(12) Miss Galore – Soft winner on debut when able to lead. She then went to Sandown Lakeside, drew wide and settled in the second half of the field before working well to the line. Drawn inside, expect her to settle near the pace. 1400m suits ideally.

(6) Royal Merchant - Win

$2.30 (4 Units)

Race 7 – Listed City Of Adelaide Handicap (1400m)

(1) Ayrton – D-day for this former boom horse (if it hasn’t been already). The stable has said as much. He was poor last start, but I’m convinced he just doesn’t handle wet tracks. Gets back onto a preferred dry track here, so I’m willing to give him one more chance as this is a much easier race to what he’s faced this prep.

(10) Rich Gina – Talented mare who has been competitive in her two forays in stakes grade, including a strong finish into third last start. She boasts good form at this track and carries the light weight.

(11) Chicago Storm – He’s flying this prep and deserves a crack at this level. Out-bobbed on the line last weekend, beating all bar the red-hot Lounge Bar Rubi. Maps for a lovely run with gun rider Jason Holder hopping on board.

(3) Noname Lane – Has come back in good touch and looks ready to win third up from a spell. Boasts an outstanding overall record and from the good draw, he can push up and settle in a prominent position.

Ayrton - Win

$2.20 (2 Units)

Race 8 – Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m)

(3) Renosu – Hard to ignore his recent form lines, running second to a jet in What You Need at Flemington last start. He’ll need a bit to go right from the draw, but he has the right jockey on board to offset that and he has plenty of early speed which will help. He was an impressive winner at this stage of last prep.
(8) Grey River – Untapped filly who measured up in stakes races during the Melbourne spring last prep. Goes well fresh and with luck from the draw, she’ll be thereabouts.

(10) Hell Hound – Has had the benefit of two jumpouts leading into this, her second much better than her first when given a solid hit-out. She didn’t win last prep but was tackling handy races in Victoria with that form standing up well.

(5) I’mlovinya – Third in a Quezette Stakes when first up last time in which is good form for this. She has won a recent jumpout and has drawn well here in comparison to some of the main hopes.

Renosu - Win

$1.85 (4 Units)

Race 9 – Group 3 R N Irwin Stakes (1100m)

(9) Seradess – Led down the straight first up, only nailed late by another well-performed mare in Veranskova. Adding merit to the run was that Veranskova was carrying 54kg to the 60kg of Seradess. She has a terrific record here, winning three of four including two Stakes races.

(2) In The Boat – Super honest, he’s been brave in defeat in both starts this time in. He’ll park up on the speed, which will set up a good battle with Seradess. Back onto a dry track helps his cause.

(1) Kallos – Hard to knock this Godolphin gelding after two straight wins to begin his prep however both have been down the straight and he has to deal with a sticky draw here.

(8) Mileva – Didn’t figure in a hot G1 first up but back in class last time, she was much more competitive. The Bella Nipotina form last prep is a great form reference for a race like this. Importantly, she has runs on the board at this track.

Seradess - Win

$6.10 (3 Units)
