2022 T20 World Cup: England vs New Zealand Preview & Betting Tips

October 31st 2022, 9:27pm, By: Mr.Cricket

England vs New Zealand Betting Tips

The T20 World Cup continues on Tuesday night with a blockbuster between England and New Zealand from the Gabba. Group 1 is wide open at the moment, which makes this game super important for the qualification hopes of both teams.

Check out our full preview and betting tips for the clash below and remember to head to our Cricket Tips page for regular updates throughout the tournament as well as the Australian summer of cricket.

T20 World Cup England vs New Zealand Betting Tips

Gabba, Tuesday 1st November, 7.00pm (AEDT)

England

England currently sit in 2nd place in the group but a loss here could be catastrophic for the chances of qualifying. They suffered a shock upset defeat at the hands of Ireland before rain washed away their chances of bouncing back against Australia on Friday night.

Winning the rest of their games would almost ensure qualification, but if they drop this one and Australia win their remaining games against Ireland and Afghanistan, they would likely be packing their bags.

Predicted XI: Alex Hales, Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Moden Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

Tough to see the English making any changes here. They haven’t played enough cricket throughout this tournament to warrant a drastic change, and they already play four seamers with Woakes, Wood, Curran and Stokes, so it’s unlikely that they bring in a fifth to cater to the pace-friendly Gabba wicket.

New Zealand

New Zealand have barely put a foot wrong in this tournament so far and they are in the box seat to be one of the two teams advancing from Group 1. They have wins over Australia and Sri Lanka and an abandoned match against Afghanistan. With just one game against Ireland to come after this clash, if they can muster a win here you’d think their ticket to the knockout phase would be punched.

Predicted XI: Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Mitchell Saunter, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

This Kiwi side looks to have the perfect mix at the moment, so I doubt they make any changes to this side either. The three pronged pace attack of Boult, Southee and Ferguson has been extremely dangerous while Sodhi and Saunter add good support and change of pace. They have two of the most dominant middle order batsman in limited overs cricket at the moment in Jimmy Neesham and Daryl Mitchell, meaning they are never out of the hunt.

Betting Tips

I love the value of the Kiwis here. They have had more cricket under their belt during this tournament and the Gabba is so conducive to quality fast bowling. The Kiwis pace attack is firing on all cylinders at the moment and they have batsmen in real form in the likes of Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips, Darryl Mitchell and Jimmy Neesham. Back them to get the job done here over an English side that has looked a little shaky in the minimal cricket they have played this tournament.

New Zealand to win

$2.40

Like the odds for Trent Boult to take at least 2 wickets here. Will be going up against two right handers at the top of the English order and should be a good chance to blow one or both of their front pads off.

Trent Boult 2+ Wickets ($2.05 at Ladbrokes)
