It’s an enormous day of group 1 action once again with Super Saturday at Flemington, highlighted by the Newmarket Hadnicap and the Australian Cup. Meanwhile up in Sydney we will see the running of the Coolmore Classic in a wide open betting affair.
Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the two meetings to bring you his best free racing tips for the day.
Today's Racing Tips: Saturday March 12th
Flemington Race 2
(4) Flying Mascot is doing exactly that - he is airborne! Did absolutely no favours to himself last start when keen all the way but still pulled away from them for a cosy win. 3rd up last prep was an absolute demolition and I think he’s going better this time in!
Rosehill Race 3
Think this horse will be popular with most punters today but (3) Magic looks extremely hard to beat off the back of a big debut. Weaved his way through the field and had to change paths a few time in the straight but once he got clear he exploded and almost won. You’d imagine he will only be better with that experience now under the belt and the extra 100m should suit. Even luck and he just wins.
Rosehill Race 5
I was keen on him in Melbourne so I’m going to have something on (5) Remarque running in Sydney now. His trials were very good coming back from a tie back surgery and his fresh run last prep behind Paulele would win this. He’s trialled up well in the past on rain affected so I’m thinking that shouldn’t be a problem today. Have to trust the stable to bring him here instead of Flemington and at the price you can take a flyer on him.
Flemington Race 5
Pretty keen on (4) Argentia who looks absolutely primed for the mile here 3rd up. Was beaten by the track bias last start but still ran very well. At set weights here I think she looks extremely hard to beat while getting back to the Flemington track is only a positive for her.
Flemington Race 6
Having two bets in the big one here. (3) Lost And Running thrashed Overpass with a big weight fresh with that form continuing to stack up. This horse is just a genuine winner and has proven himself against the best sprinters with that Everest run last prep. I think he’s come back in even better order and will give this a huge shake. (16) Artorius is a much maligned horse but his racing pattern just doesn’t do him any favours. Clearly has all the ability in the world and I’m hoping he can run well here. He looks to get in so well at the weights and if he can be a touch closer in running, he’s got the late speed to run past all of these. Coolmore run here was very good.
