Sandown Hillside Racing Tips: Wednesday February 15th 2023

Race 1

(4) Roam Around has drawn nicely in barrier 2 and has Damien Oliver on which is a big plus. Ollie sticks with him after Roam Around run a good 4th as second favourite at Geelong last start after settling 3rd from the inside barrier before he was just okay to the line. Since then he has had a one month freshen up and the Hawkes stable will expect nothing short of a placing in this maiden.

(5) Segment has placed twice from 4 starts and Dan Stackhouse takes the ride on the Overshare gelding who sees a Good track for the first time. Improvement expected.

(2) Any ZouWilldo was backed to win with Craig Newitt on last start but let punters down when 4th beaten 4L. Jye McNeil takes the ride this time and this is another who should improve after being well supported last time.

(3) Celtic Hero was just okay when 5th at Warrnambool last time and the Griffiths & de Kock stable will want to see more this time.

(4) Roam Around WIN

$10 (1 Unit)

Race 3

(4) Greece is a horse that I have tipped a few times before but it does seem to get scratched a lot in her races. She gets a Good track here and the last time he raced on a Good surface she was backed to win but was 2nd behind stablemate Garza Blanca who looks to be a promising horse. He was scratched a few weeks ago and it has now been 3 months off for the I am Invincible filly who did show promise during the Spring. She ran last in a jumpout at Cranbourne a month ago and maybe that's why she was scratched last time. In the Maher & Eustace stable, I am trusting their judgment with this one. Jamie Kah on.

(5) Arctic Fairy was beaten a nose behind All About Eve last time but before that won well over 1100m at Ballarat. One race for one 2nd on the Good.

(8) Hissy Fit won well at Mornington when starting $2.15 and Craig Williams takes the ride from Kah who has opted to ride Greece in this race. Looked the goods on the dry surface.

(9) Little Miss Kubi was beaten a neck at The Valley last time and must be respected. Kah rode her last start also but has opted for my top pick.

(4) Greece WIN

$2.10 (3 Units)

Race 4

(1) Pacific Ruby goes up 100m to the 1300m which is ideal and the Maher and Eustace mare is going for three in a row after winning when favourite last start at Flemington. She has won here before and can do it again despite carrying 60.5kg.

(3) Awapuni Princess goes pretty well fresh and she has placed 3 times from 4 starts over this distance.

(4) Gunna Gunna has drawn a little awkwardly in 11 but did win by 3.5L last time at Warrnambool on a Good track. She led all of the way that day and may have to do it again from the wide draw.

(5) Allgretta ran on very well for 2nd down the long Flemington straight and she may appreciate a long straight here too. She is one of the fittest horses in the race.

(1) Pacific Ruby WIN

$2.50 (3 Units)

Race 7

(11) Edith for the Moody stable was beaten a neck at this track last start but can go one better this time. She probably got a bit too far back last time but ran on very well down the open straight. Luke Nolen will have a decision to make from the tricky barrier 13 but she will be fitter for her first up run.

(4) Cuffe’s Grange has been knocking on the door with two seconds in a row and after a six week freshen up she might be ready to go.

(6) Bold Bourbon led when 3rd last start at big odds and may get a cheap run out in front. Jarrod Fry to take the ride and has to go forward from barrier 12.

(13) Native Girl has the services of Kah who has jumped off Edith for this ride. Native Girl’s first two runs back from a spell have been disappointing but she is better than that.

(13) Edith WIN

$2.50 (3 Units)
