PGA Championship 2026 Preview, Tips & Predictions
The Field
Scheffler returns looking to become the first player since Brooks Koepka to successfully defend a PGA Championship title. The world No. 1 has been relentlessly consistent again in 2026, opening the season with a win before posting runner-up finishes in each of his last three starts, including the Masters and RBC Heritage.
McIlroy, meanwhile, enters with the golfing world watching closely. The Northern Irishman completed the career Grand Slam with his Masters victory and now has a chance to become the first player since Jordan Spieth in 2015 to win the opening two majors of the season. Even after a modest T19 at the Truist Championship, his ceiling remains unmatched.
Elsewhere, the depth is enormous. Matt Fitzpatrick already owns three wins this season, Cameron Young continues his rise after victories at THE PLAYERS and Cadillac Championship, while players like Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele all bring elite major championship credentials into the week.
The Course
Aronimink Golf Club returns to the major championship spotlight as one of the great classic venues in American golf. The Donald Ross masterpiece sits just outside Philadelphia and combines traditional design with modern championship demands after its Gil Hanse renovation in 2017.
At par 70 and stretching beyond 7,300 yards, Aronimink demands complete control tee-to-green. The fairways are generous enough to tempt aggression, but the course’s thick rough and cleverly contoured greens punish players who lose precision with their irons.
Scoring opportunities are available, but major championship pressure changes everything here. The winning formula will likely revolve around elite approach play, patience and the ability to avoid the momentum-killing mistakes that tend to surface quickly on Ross layouts.
PGA Championship Best Bets
Rory McIlroy
What do you get for a guy who has everything, including a career Grand Slam? How about a calendar Grand Slam. The Masters champ is the only player in the field still eligible for the feat this season and arrives leading the TOUR in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green. Aronimink also suits his high-ball flight and aggressive iron play perfectly.
Rory McIlroy to Win
$10.00
Matt Fitzpatrick
The only three-time winner on TOUR this season looks tailor-made for this setup. Fitzpatrick’s all-around game has reached another level in 2026 and he ranks inside the top 15 in par-3, par-4 and par-5 scoring. Bigger greens can sometimes neutralize his putting edge, but his elite ball-striking should create plenty of chances.
Matt Fitzpatrick to Win
$23.00
PGA Championship Value Bets
Patrick Reed
The Race to Dubai leader has quietly pieced together an outstanding stretch of golf, highlighted by two wins and a playoff defeat before a T12 at the Masters. His PGA Championship record is surprisingly modest overall, but Reed’s creativity and scrambling ability could become huge assets if conditions toughen through the weekend.
Patrick Reed to Win
$76.00
Chris Gotterup
The big-hitting American continues to look increasingly comfortable on golf’s biggest stages. He’s gone T23-third-T24 in his last three majors and arrives with the kind of adaptable game that should translate beautifully at Aronimink. His length helps, but it’s his improving all-around consistency that makes him a genuine sleeper this week.
Chris Gotterup to Win
$51.00
