The Pirates were left scratching their heads after a big error in the ninth inning yesterday. That error opened the the door for the Cardinals and they walked straight through it. Although it took 14 innings the cardinals definatley stole one away from Pittsburgh who now find themselves in a small slump. Two wins in a row for the Cardinals and now with the Pirates clearly in their sight. The outcome of this series will decide the leader of the NL Central division.
Francisco Liriano will start for the Pirates, he's hadd a good season so far with a 12-5 record and a 2.83 ERA. Although last Friday he got rocked allowing 10 earned runs in only 2.1 innings. Liriano has had 25 less strikeouts than Cardinals’ starter Shelby Miller. Miller is set to return today from elbow soreness. He has 11 wins and a solid 2.89 ERA.
After yesterday’s marathon game I’m giving the psychological edge to St Louis Cardinals. Everyone is waiting for the Cardinals to put their foot down and start making their run at the post season. Yesterday’s win might have been the spark they needed.
