Week 6 of the NFL season kicks off with an intriguing Thursday Night Football matchup as the Denver Broncos welcome the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks to Empower Field at Mile High. Both teams enter the contest at 3-2, although neither has been particularly convincing through the opening five weeks. Denver comes into the game following a narrow victory over the Chargers, while Seattle will be desperate to bounce back after a frustrating divisional defeat against San Francisco.

NFL Week 6 Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos Betting Tips
11:15am AEDT, Friday October 16
Denver Broncos
Denver improved to 3-2 with a hard-fought 23-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers last weekend, although the result did little to ease concerns surrounding its struggling offence. Bo Nix completed just 16 of 27 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown, with the Broncos relying heavily on their defence to force crucial fourth-quarter turnovers. Head coach Sean Payton has taken over offensive play-calling duties, but Denver has continued to struggle moving the football consistently, averaging fewer than 20 points per game through five weeks.
The Broncos have been far more reliable defensively, with their pass rush once again proving a major strength. Zach Allen has recorded four sacks through five games, while Nik Bonitto has added three, giving Denver plenty of opportunities to pressure opposing quarterbacks. The secondary has been dealing with injuries, however, including concerns surrounding star cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Denver will need another strong defensive performance against a Seattle offence capable of producing explosive plays, particularly through Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle enters Thursday night looking to respond after suffering a disappointing 32-29 home defeat against the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks had opportunities to claim an important divisional victory but were undone by costly turnovers, with Sam Darnold throwing two interceptions and the running game also struggling with ball security. Darnold finished with 195 passing yards and a touchdown, while Smith-Njigba continued his outstanding start to the season with five receptions for 102 yards and another score.
The defending champions have now committed eight turnovers across their past three games, placing unnecessary pressure on a defence that has otherwise been among the NFL's best. Seattle ranks second in defensive EPA per play allowed and has prevented every opponent from gaining more than 301 total yards this season. The running game remains a concern, however, with Zach Charbonnet still working his way back from injury and Emanuel Wilson and George Holani struggling to establish consistency. Against Denver's aggressive defensive front, protecting Darnold and avoiding turnovers will be crucial.
Prediction
There is plenty to like about both defensive units in this matchup, but considerably less confidence surrounding either offence. Denver has struggled to generate consistent production through the air, with Nix throwing for just 123 yards against the Chargers last weekend, while Seattle has been plagued by turnovers and an ineffective running game. Both teams also rank among the NFL's worst on third down, making sustained scoring drives difficult to produce.
Seattle's defence should have the upper hand against a Broncos offence averaging fewer than 20 points per game, while Denver's pass rush is well equipped to exploit the Seahawks' offensive line issues. The Broncos will also be looking to slow the game down and establish their running attack, particularly with Seattle possessing the more dangerous passing weapons. With both teams playing on a short week and neither offence operating at its best, this shapes as a defensive battle where points could be difficult to come by. The Under 42.5 looks the preferred play.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Over 90.5 Receiving Yards
Smith-Njigba has been one of the NFL's most productive receivers through the opening five weeks, leading the league with 583 receiving yards and seven touchdown receptions. The Seattle superstar has surpassed 100 receiving yards in four of his five appearances, including another 102-yard performance against San Francisco last weekend. Denver possesses a dangerous pass rush, but injuries in the secondary could leave the Broncos vulnerable against Seattle's most important offensive weapon. With the Seahawks struggling to establish their running game, Darnold should continue looking towards Smith-Njigba as his primary option through the air. Given his outstanding early-season form and consistent target volume, 75 receiving yards looks an achievable mark.
